It appears that I am stuck in- well it's not 3rd, and it's not 5th, it is somewhere in between. Probably forever (unless someone catches me from behind). There is no way my little AMD farm is going to catch John Galt 007's Intel farm, and it will take years to catch up to TezzerH or Migratory Coconuts. On the up-side, no one else has to worry about getting stuck in 3<x<5 for a while (Unless AlDente fires things up and passes me).
Unless someone wants to buy me one of these:http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13046_na/13046_na.html.
It is only $54,000 the way I want it setup (8 quad cores). _________________

Yes, I have looked at the stats, and indeed you are not there...
I must commend you on your contributions to the Team and I stand in awe of your substantial gardening abilities, However, I simply cannot sympathize with your plight.
I have been stuck in 37 forever and while my prospects for movement are greater than yours this still sucks.
Additionally I was thinking of starting a thread to alternately Congratulate and then Taunt Sir Mohr as he bounces into and then out of the top 100 but we already have a thread named "The Never Ending Thread". _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

4 x 16 x 2 x 4 = 512 2.5GHz Xeon cores; RAC 250,000 - 500,000?, say 125 million/year
Power consumption (runing 100%) ~ 25kW (at current prices ~ £175/day, £5,250/month, £63,000/year!!!)
Now, where did I hide that winning lottery ticket? I'll take two.

Having just re-read that, I realised I could build 128 Quad-core desktops for well under £50,000, and they'd only consume ~ 15kW.
Blade systems aren't very good value, are they? _________________ Creationists believe they never evolved; I agree with them.

But have you factored in cooling costs and floorspace? That many desktops is going to take HUGE amounts of space when compared to a bunch of blade servers. I suppose if you placed a series of desktops side by side and end to end with enough room for cooling air and cables you could make a false floor over them and make everyone guess why your floor is so noisy. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

Despite me whining, I did just realize that I did sneak into the top 400 in the

Heartiest congratulations on the Top 400.
I'm only 50 behind you, but it's painfully slow going, so I know only too well how much effort that takes.

Yes I feel like I am on a bungie cord. In the top 100, out of the top 100. For the next couple of months it should be mostly stable. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

World Community Grid in BOINC has KWSN's worst standing in team ranking (going by AD's stats). There are some worse standings in the non-boinc projects but I don't know much about them. As long as you pick another type of shrubbery and arrange the two shrubberies so that they get a two-level effect with a little path running down the middle, it's all good!
OR you could arrange all the projects on a wall and throw a dart randomly at the wall. That would be the most scientific method of choosing. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

Sir John... where you can help the team is in the DC Vault... which is a DC cross project (not just boinc) scoring system... if you want just boinc projects... either poem@home or yoyo@home could help as we have lot of places to gain on either project, and each place gives a lot of vault points..
if you're looking at non boinc projects either D2OL or Wieferich give good scores... but D2ol has lots of places to KWSN to gain over other teams...

... and now that the DC-Vault has added some projects recently, Docking, NQueens and SHA-1 are all ripe for some gains.
and don't worry too much about blowing past me in 3x - after Ramsey died, it's the current credit ho's paradise, so I'd have been surprised/disappointed if no-one had taken up the challenge

What about Formula BOINC standings? That is what I have been basing my credit whoriness on. _________________

Ni Sir J 007 !!
Sir Toothy has been very busy elsewhere promoting KWSN , as has Sir Wrong Film and others . Neither of them now wish to promote their own scores , just KWSN (Hey either of them can both BLOW me out'a the water anytime they choose !! [ and you - sorry ]) .
If you wish to promote KWSN with your "HorsePower" , look to the Bible of Stats (DC Vault) and choosey where to pump . If you look at the number of teams contributing to a project - you will get an idea of how difficult the Non Boinc projects are - hence the points/place availiable there . Boinc is easy .
This post sounds confrontational --- Sir J 007 , it is not , just think about where you can help KWSN please .

Nope , YoYo is about 320 times more than Seti in the Vault/place/points (and RAC) . Others are much better by a factor of > 20 over that (Non Boinc projects though - very hard on computers too - gotta have some very stable quick ones ) .
Best Boinc points/place are the new projects recently placed in the Vault .

Well, since my quads are OCed, don't want to stress them any more than I have to. I guess I will give yoyo a try for a while....
