Hi jsu a question for all you people I have an old DURON 700 which may be getting a DURON 800 chip. It is currently Shrubbing F@H and keeps getting large WU's P2107/8/22 and it takes the slow wee box the best part of a month to crunch these.
Any other project more suited to the more mature computer. My only other option is to turn him loose on timeless cores for F@H any thoughts.

Go timeless Spike, don't leave F@H, also maybe run Red Library. It doesn't use much CPU time and we need you in F@H. #ni-1

Message received and understood Lady A, these big WU's are a pain in the tonsils as I get 400 points a month but in between the big ones I had a small WU for 179 points shrubbed it in two days. these big WU's are too much so He goes timeless.

I have a couple of REALLY old Celeron boxes, 500 and 600 MHz respectively, that do a fine job of shrubbing for SZTAKI #evil

(Please note: I have the honor of the #1 spot for RAC for our team on that project...)

Make no mistake, I honor the value of the protein folding projects: 2/3's of my own shrubbing effort goes to Rosetta (at least until CASP 7 is over Razz

)

But protein folding is for young, vibrant (read: fast, powerful) shrubbers.

I let the venerable oldsters push polynomials around, a task for which they are well suited by both temperament and design.

There is a setting in the Folding client where you can tell it not to run the largest units, perhaps you could try that.

Otherwise I think I must agree with davide405, an 800 MHz duron is on the slow side for folding, especially since it lacks the SSE instruction set.

An option could be to use it for a project where the competition is weak, like Riesel Sieve. Smile

Me and Hgs could use the company Wink

And you can always use it for the non-cpu dependant projects, like Majestic-12 and Red Library.

Thanks for the suggestions Davide and mildew But Wee geordie is a F@H stats HO, he has never missed a deadline yet and I will keep him folding for now.
But the celery 500 that sits behind me at the moment in the final stages of a major overhaul. May have found a home in one of your DC suggestions. He will probably have a load of win 98se and as much ram as the Mobo will suport.
