If you haven't been crunching LHC, now's a good time to re-attach.

We are happy to announce the start of a large production run, with the first set of 27,000 million-turn jobs just submitted. We will soon decide whether to open up to more users. Many thanks for your patience waiting for this good news! |

Every time we run them out of work units I feel a strange sense of pride and satisfaction. Yesterday it dropped to 0 and then they must have re-issued a bunch that had failed validation because it jumped up to 4,000 or so. Now it is back at 0. Unfortunately this computer decided to lock up and when I restarted BOINC it detected that the client_state.xml file had been corrupted so it reset all projects and I lost a bunch of LHC work. Oh well. Life happens. |

Here's a status report on the project.
http://lhcathome.cern.ch/announcement4.html
The work comes in waves - they have to stop and analyze results before launching another wave of work units... |

CHRISTMAS AND FUTURE PLANS:
Just received from the LHC accelerator physicists:
"The results from the recent tracking campaign have been presented in our meeting last Friday. The presentation was well received and it was decided to continue with another massive study after Christmas, using a slightly different set of parameters. The foreseen study will need about the same computing resources as the one just completed. Maybe more, probably not less. The results of the previous study will be presented at the forthcoming Particle Accelerator Conference 2006 in Edinburgh."
Happy Christmas and thanks from CERN to all LHC@home volunteers! |

Yeah, I know, after I got some, I suspended all other projects temporarily, and increased my cache size a bit to "horde" some LHC WUs I'll return the cache size back down to .8 days before resuming work fetch for any other projects...
My Athlon 64 will be doing LHC pretty exclusively for several days, until this batch runs out... |

I was hoping my nemisis wouldn't notice until much later, but the horrid wabbit has tipped him off.
Don't worry Son Goku, the race is on and I intend to pass you on this batch. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

Who knows, but actually I started crunching LHC yesterday... The project wasn't suspended, so BOINC notified me already in the form of new WUs
Oh, and I noticed, you certainly added a lot of computers to take 1 lone machine down

Felt nervious? |

He did feel nervious... I looked at his comps WU totals
thx for the idea though, not that I pulled things as tight as 90 WUs on a single CPU Though keep in mind that it's more total rankings that I think of advancing in, not any particular individual... When the day is done, a number is still a number, and one spot advance is just as good as any other
But one thing is good in all this, the last month I was thinking whether we'd advance on Pheonix Rising (the #14 team in LHC). It looks like we might have a chance to make them nervious |

Hi all,
Well some WU's at last - fortunately it's on different hosts to my QMC effort so at least they will be little impacted - just wonder who'll be the winners and losers on the latest CERN unit grab (I'm getting my fair share).
Ni!

I've joined and got a few myself. My meager shrubbies will really be meager, but, better than nothing I guess. _________________ Confucious say, "Man who lay girl on hill, not on level"

I pulled about a weeks supply, after seeing what Shrubbery did after declaring hostilities on me :rofl
Well, in any case, after he pulled what looks like it could be a 10 days supply perhaps on some of his computers he might finally advance... But it's funny that my then typical LHC crunching made him so nervious... Now would be the perfect time for another knight to encrouch upon his other project standings, while he's turned full attention to me. Just get the flank from behind
Hmm, just imagine if I had my X2 already, and a job as a network admin at a company where I could install BOINC on all their systems... Well not yet anyhow, and on the latter front who knows. Albeit, given I'm looking for a summer job on the local military base, probably not... Security there, is obviously rather tight Except I wouldn't lose a job for a few more credits |

It's really not all just for your benifit, you just happen to be a handy target. :evil
And the one box is a dual Opteron, yes, it's a long supply but they will finish. Soon as I can afford the cpus it will be a quad.
I have all my computers set to automatically crunch totally LHC whenever work becomes available. It tends to average out over the long haul. I did change my network cache to grab what I could while they were there. Figure I probably raked in a total of 300 wu counting the ones that were completed and reloaded.
Hopefully it will help out the team and CERN some. The stats are fun, the science is what matters. _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

Just remember, turn around could always come... Oh you called me a nemesis; such views last a looong time Nah, don't worry, just in crunching stats. Actually a student now, who's graduated from one of the intended majors, and just trying to start out with a career. Probably could use a laptop for some of the engineering classes soon, to go along with the dtop though When the day comes that I finally get the computer engineering degree, I might/hopefully will be raking in the dough

I saw that box, but actually meant the single core with 90 WUs to it... Well, all in all, I ended up pulling in 87 after I saw what you did At least some of em shrubbers completed almost immediately and stuff... Actually, between what we both did, we might be able to make that number 14 team nervious in the stats

Yeah, we gained on Pheonix Rising a smiggen the last time. Perhaps in a couple months we should go taunt them |
