Yes, we do need to increase our RAC And perhaps get some new members that will help us increase this. Lets take a full team listing from BOINC stats
http://www.boincstats.com/stats/boinc_team_stats.php?pr=bo&st=0&to=100
Quote: | 9 The Knights Who Say Ni! 55,212,324 204,048
10 SETI.USA 53,441,636 596,896
11 TeAm AnandTech 51,602,756 258,388 |
Those are just the immediate threats, with SETI.USA being rated for an overtake of 5 (is that days or what)? The last number is credit/day, and the next to last is current credit totals... We will lose our position if we don't increase our RAC fast. Surprised they haven't taunted us yet...
Team AnandTech techs us also, and we will be out of the top 10 spot. What's more, the #12 team doesn't surpass our per day credit, but look further down the list at team 17...
We're a bein challenged for our spot in the leader board here Now team AnandTech we could taunt and perhaps pull up the slack. SETI.USA, it's gonna get ugly |

Meta-yoyo-engines running at full speed on rosetta and einstein , i dont know what i have messed out with s@h and went wrong, but i will keep crunching at those two.
if you see any needs to start crunching on an other project , drop an message. _________________ NI! |

Well, they all contribute to the same grand total, which is what those stats are taken off of. The only advantage to putting time in either SETI or Einstein over other projects in that regard, is the ability to use optimized science apps, to boost one's credit granting. Acosv's in terms on Einstein, or crunch3r's in terms of SETI's...
I know I created a thread for the e@h optimized app, though newer versions are out now. I'm using d40 now (which has 3dnow! optimizations for my A64, and is an order of magnitude faster). Basically it takes those extra long WUs that were taking 1.5 hours on c37, and finishes them in about 54 to 55 minutes. s40 and newer are probably out now...
I got the link to crunch3r on this forum in another, albeit one has to be careful there to select the right CPU...
But other then the question of science app optimization, any WU crunched under BOINC will add to that total, and hence helps.... |

think of it this way,
in boinc you have total credit and RAC (recent average credit)
Total credit = credit for work completed
RAC= current speed
so
We're driving a pick-up.
SETI.USA and Team anandtech are driving Ferrari's
we need to floor it very quckly otherwise thy'll pass us pronto, and give us the bird on the way past.....
but we can soup up our battered old F150 by optimising it. the best apps for this are seti and Einstein. basicaaly you can process about 3 times as many shrubs with the tweaked apps as the standard ones, and so you get higher credit scores. _________________ Oh, it's blessed are the meek!, Well I'm glad they'll get something as they have a hell of a time!

Yes but we have something SETI>USA lacks; international membership.

Yeah, if we get more shrubs in...
Meh, if only I'd land one of these jobs or something. Looking for jobs I can do while continuing to go to school. Perhaps then I could buy a laptop, to get some crunch time beyond what my lonely a64 is doing...
Optimized apps definitely do help though. Typically I claim about 8 or 9 credits on SETI using crunch3r, however end up getting about 18-30 credits granted...
Hmm, come to think of it, perhaps some more advertizing in some of the team recruitment threads on some projects might be a good idea... |

Well I haven't popped in here in awhile, but I've still been crunching for CPDN. As soon as we get our tax refund, my husband is getting a new computer, which I will have BOINCing for us shortly thereafter. Plus, I will be putting his old one to work as well. (It's a little e-machine dinosaur, but every bit helps) Giving me a total of 2 1/2 shrubbers!!!

I gave an old (to me) computer to a friend, then insisted that he run BOINC and join KWSN |

i'm popping them out as fast as I can right now. I am using some industrial fertilizer on my computer though. It was already full of bullshirt so I had to use something different. _________________

Good idea, Sir Davide. Come to think of it, my mom is using the computer I gave her when I replaced mine last year.
Hmmm... I'm thinking perhaps a late stipulation to that gift may be in order.

It seems our RAC has gone up or down but we have lost a spot in the RAC ranking.

According to the World Rankings at BOINC Synergy our RAC is now at 180K. Up 3K!

now some people MAY call it cheating , but there's a thing called claiming FAIR credit
if you use the truxoft Boinc client then it ups your claimed credit, based on your benchmarks from the optimised apps, so that you dont stitch up anyone whos not using optimised apps. you get on average the same grated credit so it all works out in the end.... _________________ Oh, it's blessed are the meek!, Well I'm glad they'll get something as they have a hell of a time!

Only prob is that if one's using mostly SETI and Einstein (with the new optimized Einstein app), then that's one thing. However, most of my crunching hasn't tended to be for both those products.
On rosseta and QMC, truxtoft could be argued to be cheating and rightly so, on SETI the argument could go otherwise. On CPDN and seasonal which give a fixed credit no matter what, it wouldn't matter. I don't tend to use Truxtoft simply because for most of my projects, there isn't an optimized app |
