Hi folks. I was browsing the vault when I noticed that we had dropped 2 places in the Physical science department. (back down to 6th ) It's all because of this new project very similar to CPDN but is run by the BBC. It's included in the vault, and only 3 teams are running it right now.
Clicky!
You need Win XP or 2k, and have a broadband connection. Not laptop friendly, but does have a linux app available. The software is like BOINC as it's provided by Berkeley, but i'm not sure that there is any difference. |

Quote: | Work units for the project take about 2.3 times longer to complete than climateprediction.net's sulphur cycle work units, and about 6.6 times longer than climateprediction.net's slab model work units.

Quote: | Can I pull out of the experiment at any time?
Yes, although doing so before the end of the first experiment will slightly inconvenience the research. Please do not start unless you are reasonably confident you will be able to let the experiment run to completion. |
Just wanted to point out the timeframe involved here and I believe the client can be either a standalone or BOINCed. |

Added 2 machines to this project this morning... read this above, threw up a little bit then pulled one machine back off. _________________ "There ain't no freekin' Indians around here..."

So do we finally have a KWSN team there?
Sir V are you going to update it at the dc-vault.com site so we can get those points?

I am confused on how you attach to the project. How do you sign-up to get a key or a password. I can not find anything to answer my question about that on there main site.

You attach to bbc.cpdn.org with BOINC. You need to set up an account, as it is running separately from the regular climate prediction stuff. It's a monster file and run, so you'll need to give it mucho, if not exclusive priority. It takes about 2800-3200 hours per work unit.
I'm dedicating the full resources of one machine to this thing for the two WU's that came down when I sign up, but I definitely hit the "no new work" option. When these things are done, so am I with this project. |

Rabbit...
I've already notified the DC-Vault guys.
A link to it is up on our DC-Fortress. www.katrinashome.com
Click here for direct access to that page.
I included stat pages that I could find (on short notice) and an install guide that worked great for me as well as all the additional info.
If anyone else knows of some more stats please let me know.

Okay, I'm Boincing away on this one. My Pentium D is doing two WU's simultaneously and not much else right now. At a rate of 2.60 Seconds/TS, 25,920 seconds per model year, 160 model years, it's still going to take. . . .2,995 hours and 12 minutes! Did I figure this see that right. . . .124.8 days at 24x7 operation? Boy howdy! Let's hope the credits reflect the work from this enormous shrub.
I borged an office computer for this task as well, but its humming along at a much more modest 3.85 seconds/TS. Aiyeeee, this is a P4 2.8Ghz, I thought it would do better than that.
Anyhow, the team has my credits until these WU's pass, but I don't know if I can keep committing to four-mounth shrubs. |

Is this experiment exporting to the KWSN combined stats page? I've noticed that the machine I have running this one doesn't show contact, nor do its credits show up as of yet. Just curious. |

One of my four models crashed yesterday. I'm just running a sulfur experiment in its stead. I don't know if I have the patience to start another one of those monsters. _________________

I too am running a sulfur experiment . I find that my sulfur production is highly dependent upon what I eat. The experiment is going well but I sure have a lot of dead birds, livestock and plants around my house .
Oh, I guess you guys were talking about Distributing Computing projects.

Is Sir F. I. Y. G. D. factored in those Climate Prediction models? Or will they need to start a separate project for him? Fart@home? |

I'm running the Fart@everywhereIam project .
The models predict that with my current emissions Earth will resemble Venus within 5 years . We'll all be surfing in the Artic .

Tricky project this one (as is attribution thingy)...think it really does need a new version of windows...the models I've tried on my various linux boxes have all crashed so I'm sticking to einstein@home.

WU wise, there isn't much difference from CPDN anymore. From what some said on the CPDN boards, they're not getting sulpher units anymore, and only coupled ocean models seem to be issued to them...
When I got a coupled ocean model from CPDN, it gave the whole BBC logo, etc... From all I can see, the CPDN main project is distributing the same exact models that the BBC project is. Perhaps if the BBC is still planning more TV programming on further results, about the only difference I can detect... |
