Hi folks... long time.
I've been bad and have been neglecting my shrubbing duties. I'm hoping we have some generic instructions that can get me back on track... so here are my resources and thier current status.
Main system (2.4Ghz P4 Dell Dimension 8100): Has a hoplessly out of date version of Boinc on it and when I try to update it, it fails (don't recall the exact error I got... it's been a while since I tried to fix it).
Dev system (3Ghz Dual Core Dell Dimension 9100): Nothing... If I'm not developing, it sits there looking dumb, bored and depressed.
Wife's system. (1.25 Ghz dual CPU Mac g4 - OS-X (latest)): Also sit's idle most of the time.
I'd like to get my main system shrubbing again and add my dev system and my wife's G4 into the mix as well.
I should still be Registered as KWSN - Dan Rhea.

Okay, I got Boinc running with S@H on. Whatever the problem was on my production system seems to have been resolved (maybe because I uninstalled and reinstalled on a differet drive).
Anyway... All is well on the production system.
Boinc is also running on my dev system (the Dual Core system), but it doesn't appear to be smart enough to run two instances so it never uses more than 50% cpu time (one CPU). Does anyone know how to get Boinc to fully utilize both CPU's on a Dual Core?
I still haven't tackled my wife's Mac, but it's a dual CPU system as well. Hopefully it won't have the same problem. _________________ > SELECT * from KWSNs where affected_by_looney_magnet = 'Y';

NI!
Welcome back, from your reports I note that you have not fallen under the spell of the Folding Pimps. This is good, and will be credited to your account on the final day.

Once a shrubber, anways a shrubber... besides that what good is a folded shrub? Yuck!
Now if I can get around this Dual Core / Dual CPU sillyness I can add another 3Ghz of processing power from my end. _________________ > SELECT * from KWSNs where affected_by_looney_magnet = 'Y';

Well I just jumped over to my dev system to try a few other things and to my amazement... both CPU's are crunching away on shrubs... it must have been when I attached the project a second time... or it figured it out on its own.
So it looks like I just have to borg the MAC and I'll be running at full capacity here at the home office.

N! Welcome (back) to the house of BOINC! I think there are a few issues still being ironed out with the client and how it requests work. I think when you first attach it, it only asks for one work unit so only one CPU can crunch. Then it has to wait a while before it can request more. Eventually it does and both CPUs start chugging away as designed (assuming your preferences allow it to run on both CPUs). Don't forget to check my BOINC stats site! (KWSN - Dan Rhea here)
We need a few more Kni!ghts to see the light. We need some more shrubbers if we want to maintain our #10 spot on seti. If we get about 40 or 50 thousand shrubs per day more we could even move UP and pass the french again!

On the seti site (for S@H boincing, http://setiathome.berkeley.edu), try the preferences section (your account - preferences).
Look at the preferences for the place where you boinc (general, home etc...) (you will need to log in to see those)
Does it read this (at the end of the first section)?
'On multiprocessors, use at most 2 processors '
Hyperthreaded systems are recognized by boinc as having 2 processors.
If you need to change the setting there's an "edit preferences" button at the bottom of the page.

Thanks for the welcome back!
I've discovered that here actually is a force out there that is more powerful than the loony magnet... it's called World of Warcraft. On the other hand, maybe the loony magnet causes people to play World or Warcraft. I wonder?
Anyway... Both systems are crunching out shrubs like a well run truck farm, and I'm just about to borg my wife's dual processor Mac. That will give me five CPU's shrubbing away.
Those of you who wish for me to fold... I'm not interested... sorry... I have been doing SETI@Home for years (since December of 1999 on and off), and I don't plan to change unless SETI goes away for some reason.
I'll post something in the new members forum to let the rest of the kanigits know that I have returned to the search for the holy little green grail shaped creatures.  _________________ > SELECT * from KWSNs where affected_by_looney_magnet = 'Y';
