|
In case you missed the announcement on http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/, Seti@home has just gone offline for the rest of the night.
Quote: | January 7, 2005
Outage Notice. Because of nearby building construction there will be an extended power outage this coming weekend. All of our machines will be turned off so there will be no data or web service. The outage will begin Sunday, January 9, at 18:00 PST (January 10, 02:00 UT). We hope to be back up Monday at 08:00 PST (16:00 UT). |
Hope your cache is full and/or you are signed up with a couple projects! It would be a shame to let a computer go idle when it could be crunching for KWSN on some other project!

ni!
Seems like we have to wait to 2006 for more work from seti@home boinc -
"News February 4, 2005
We will restart the database migration to the new hardware Monday, January 7, at 18:00 UT. The outage will be several hours long. Currently, workunit production is falling behind demand. The splitters themselves are able to keep up but are not able to insert work fast enough because of competition for database access."
Hope they mean February!

Hahah!
I'm sure they mean Feb, because they were stating all along that they would restart the new migration on this coming Monday, Feb. 7.
More than likely I have enough work cache'd to get through it, but my concern is why have none (not a single one) of my credits been granted yet? I know, it's database delay issues; But it's frustrating!
I've got well over 500 credits (not WorkUnits) that have at least "3 parts" completed, and not one single credit has been granted to me yet.
Dating back to when I begun, Jan 30, 2005.
Frustrating I tell ya, aaaaaarrrrrrrrrr

I'm still getting a small trickle of credits. 500 to 600 per day. Should be closer to 2500 per day. |

I'm lucky to get that per fortnight!

Yes well some of us are "better endowed" than others of us. But yes... seti@home is still up and running it is just that the database is extremely overloaded so everything is going at a snail's pace. This is one reason I am signee up with multiple projects. I will likely never run out of BOINC work so I can BOINC all the time! |

That's with 11 cpus running 24/7. Mostly seti, with predictor and cp also getting some time. Run folding at home on a notebook in the company vehicle. |

Good news! Seti@home migrated to their new database server! It isn't quite online yet but they ARE making progress. The current slowness and lack of work is due to some garbage collection being done by mySQL and there isn't much they can do about it. Switching to the new server should fix it though.
More info in this thread from one of the project admins, Matt Lebofsky. |

Yup! The Seti BOINC Project seems to be full tilt again. Been more than a little annoying as I've some 26 Pentium 4 CPUs on the job -- and 6 of those systems have been running for a week with zero credits.
I suspect my systems cannot be seen, and I've asked them all to stand up. However, it seems they've also learned the first lesson of not being seen ... not to stand up. Ah well.
3K credits a day will keep you all from taking my liver, I think!

S@H Boinc has gone boinnnng, again. Message:

Update. Once the RAID rebuilds we are going to run a job to delete old workunits and results from the array. These would normally be deleted by the file deleter but the latter is still backed up from before the database migration. The project will remain off through all of this.
The data server failed around 20:30 UTC for the third time in as many days. The project will be down as we continue to diagnose the problem
Time to catch up on those other projects I think.

Sheeesh! I've got over 100 completed shrubs (arranged nicely in a sort-of tiered format) sitting on my servers. What to do what to do ...
For some reason, I was still downloading shrubs -- but BOINC was not accepting the reports .. so they just kept building up until the controllers were shut down. if this keeps up, I won't have room for the Alpacas!

Ni!
It seems there are continuing problems at S@H. It seems to be up and down like a yoyo.
