Oooops, I finally noticed that some of us already are already BOINC'ing this project!

Yeah, I'm finding that out. Downloaded my first work unit and it looks like it will take 600 hours / 24 = 25 days! What's going on, am I calculating the weather pattern over the vast territory surrounding the twin peaks of Mt. Kilamonjaro???

I just found out about the technique of showing project graphics by right clicking on the project under the work tab, then clicking on "Show Graphics". In this project, this shows a globe that is color coded by temperature. If you click the letters T, P, R, S, or U on the keyboard, you can also look at precipitation, pressure, clouds, etc. It also shows the date that you are calculating - for example, I am currently modelling data for March 30, 1823. Pretty snappy! Cool

But as we've said before, MAN these are some HUGE shrubs! I've crunched 150 hours on this one and completed only 27%! This is with a 2.6 Ghz celery, neither beast nor slouch? I think a completed shrub covers about 30 years of global climate data!

I started CPDN in beta test. In the email they sent out inviting me to join the beta, they explicitly told me it would take a month on a 2.6 GHz CPU. Did they take this out of the email now? They really should warn people so someone doesn't start it up on some PII 350 and crunch for 3 years Smile

Check your email, I just received a strange one from ClimatePredition. There is a problem with a small number of work units and they're sending this email only to folks they think might have these units. Looks like a pain, but I'd sure hate to crunch 600 hours then not be able to return the results! Confused
