As the Hamster said. There is no creativity needed for solving this (kind of) puzzle as long as you now the system to attack the question. It is a long time since I played with matrices. Is there a way as simple as solving the puzzle to answer another question: 'is enough information provided (and preferably no redundancy) that the puzzle CAN be solved?'

I hadn't thought about this in a long time. The method of creating such a puzzle should also be through a matrix representation and row manipulation.
I never did decide how the adjancent houses should be represented though. I somehow blundered through to the solution anyway.

Um ... I could represent adjacent houses graphically, which let me solve the problem. I never figured how quite how I ought to represent adjacency in a matrix. Was that what you were asking?

Umm , yes - but I forgot also .
Just that a simple 5 box matrix with each having a separate 4 box linked matrix (for pets ) would sufice
And bits of string to link them
And a bit of paper Anna pen
Sorry SHoE , not taking the "P" , paper and pen IS often more powerful than the 'puter

No use for most of the loonies here: not able to read or write these peas don't help.

Took me an hour and a half. But then again, I had a pen that wouldn't write and a husband that wouldn't leave me alone. _________________ Behind every great man stands an even greater woman. |

I had forgotten about this until LadyKong reminded me.
Since I had forgotten how this was resolved, I decided to try again.
This time with no ringing telephone and using a matrix. I did much better. Only 20 minutes. I like to say I cheated by knowing who owned the fish but that did not come into play while resolving it.
So I guess the moral of the story is, BAN ALL TELEPHONES!
Or it could be, instead of fumbling through it like I originally did, use a matrix. _________________ |----Ni---Ni----|

Loved it! I buy logic puzzle and cryptic crossword books rather than normal old run-of-the-mill crosswords so this was great fun. I took 20 minutes.
Sending off a pm to Lady DC. _________________ My brain hurts.
