There... now it dont need to be unlocked.... its always at or near the top... and a forum prune wont erase it... |
And now for some Administrator voodoo:
- Backup the forum
- Install thread merge mod
- Take database backup
- Unlock old thread
- Merge new thread into old thread
- Un-announce "new" thread

I think I have become a folder. I downloaded Electron Microscope and everything seems to be working so far.
Here are my newbie questions.
1) if my computer is turned off, (which did happen), will it remember what it has done, or will it start all over from the beginning, (which it did), and if so, how to I get it to remember in case my husband decides he wants to turn my computer off without telling me.
2) do I have to register somewhere, or is just putting my name, klaatuborada, and the team # in at the beginning enough and then when my results go in, then I'll be on the list?
Please let me know, as my first protein has 400 frames and will be done in two days

WooHoo!!!
A new Folder!
And it only took 13 pages to convince you!
The client saves data every frame and should restart at the last saved frame after you shut down.
However, if you run one of Bills older operating systems, like Windows 98, the save file might become corrupt if you just kill the client. It is therefore recommended that you always use Ctrl-C to close the client in a controlled manner.
You don't need to register. Specifying team #117 is all you need!
Let's see if you can find that big whale member gene! _________________

First of all: thank you for joining the Dutch Power Kows!
The client remembers where it left off after each frame it has finished. Probably you didn't finish a frame yet, so it started working on the first frame again.
In this project there is a way of tweaking the client. The best client one can use is the Beta client (3.25) available here.
I always use the Windows console and hide it to the systray using TrayIt.
If you start the Beta client using a shortcut in the Windows Startup folder you can easily start the client using the switches: -advmethods and -forceasm. (You can do that by changing the properties of the shortcut (rightclick on the shortcut in question ...properties and then on to the tab which has the 'Target' on it.) type the 2 switches behind the line in the target box (example: C:\DC_Projects\fah\FAH3.25-Console-beta.exe -advmethods -forceasm)
Now the client tries to get as many Gromac proteins as possible instead of the Tinker unit you currently have. Since the Gromac thinghies in combination with this Betaclient can use SSE instructions of the CPU, it will go a lot faster.
Happy Folding, and which picture did convince you to start Folding? _________________ SAVE THE WHALES. Collect the whole set.

Hmmm... You should only use the -advmethods and -forceasm switches if you are running on a 500MHz or better processor.
If you aren't then you need to upgrade! - Tell your husband that someone switched off the computer unexpectedly, and as a result the secondary cache line integrity checking circuitry has depolarised and the Schottky collector no longer has zero differential resistance. This unfortunate situation can only be solved by the purchase of a new dual hyper-threaded Xeon system and a good spanking...

This will be with the Windows Console, not the Windows Graphical Client, neh? These stupid questions brought to you by, me! but I'm a stickler for detail. Since I run EMIII version 2.4.2 is this something I can change in that or do I need to go to command line of beta first to test to tweak then run EMIII?
Also, 13 is my lucky number. _________________ Confucious say, "Man who lay girl on hill, not on level"

Yes, use the console, not graphical - [just like SETI, the non-graphical runs faster]
I think I'd hold off on that FaH Beta -its not working right on either the two new machines I've tried it on .... just use the 3.24 version for now.
you can always try it later when you want ... after it's been cleared by some knights, for example... |
