From experience, the most that prank will do is blow up the guys muffler, no permanent damage results  . |

Ahh! You disappoint me Sir Fart! All you need to do is cut a small V in the bottom of the potato, just before someone is going on a long road trip. Lets enough gasses to escape so that the car keeps running but several hundred miles down the road things start to get extremely hot and pieces inside the engine start to melt

Weeellll, that assumes the moron that's driving has no temperature gauge, or has one and pays it no heed.
Besides, I think all you'd get out of that would be a baked potato  !
We were never sophisticated enough to go carving da potato, we figure it'd just fall out. We would just pound that mother right in the old tailpipe (two if it had dual exhausts) and sit around and watch the shenanigans .
