|
|
Milky Way is the winner for the GPU Project of the Month for September. Milky Way focuses on three areas.
Quote: | Milkyway@Home ...creates a highly accurate three dimensional model of the Milky Way galaxy using data gathered by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. This project enables research in both astroinformatics and computer science.
In computer science, the project is investigating different optimization methods which are resilient to the fault-prone, heterogeneous and asynchronous nature of Internet computing; such as evolutionary and genetic algorithms, as well as asynchronous newton methods.
While in astroinformatics, Milkyway@Home is generating highly accurate three dimensional models of the Sagittarius stream, which provides knowledge about how the Milky Way galaxy was formed and how tidal tails are created when galaxies merge.

How can we go about changing the link to this forum at the Milkyway?

Could we change it to http://www.kwsnforum.com instead?

I shut down n-body simulations, because it was using all my cpus and blocking pogs... _________________

Anyone have the app_config.xml for running multiple GPU WUs?
I'm pretty sure all I need is to get the app names right...
<?xml version="1.0"?>
-<app_config>
-<app>
<name>milkyway_separation_1.02_windows_x86_64__opencl_nvidia.exe</name>
-<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.3</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
-<app>
<name>milkyway_1.36_windows_x86_64__opencl_ati_101.exe</name>
-<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.3</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config> _________________

I am running two at a time on my ancient HD4870 double precision.
I have limited the (amd 4 core) CPU to 75% leaving one core to run them both on the GPU.
Code: | <app_config>
<app>
<name>milkyway</name>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.50</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.50</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
<app>
<name>milkyway_separation__modified_fit</name>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.50</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.50</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>
|
Further, I chose just one app to run in "my prefs at Milkyway.
It doesn't really get me better credits but only slams the server 1/2 as often. _________________

This is bizarre. I'm running and completing GPU WUs, but my GPUs are idle. It's as if the apps have reverted to CPU only... _________________

Update: Milkyway released cpu apps as gpu apps. They're recommending to kill all WUs in queue and download new. This is from their site.. _________________

The KWSN PotM jinx is working overtime at Milkyway today.
Quote: | http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway_cgi/cgi MilkyWay@Home
Warning: mysqli::__construct(): (HY000/2002): No such file or directory in /boinc/milkyway/html/inc/db_conn.inc on line 42
Warning: mysqli::query(): Couldn't fetch mysqli in /boinc/milkyway/html/inc/db_conn.inc on line 64
Database Error |
Website is messed up. Not sending work. My GPU sits idle waiting for Milkyway.
Hope they fix this soon.
If it lasts more than a day, I'll probably find something else for the GPU to do for the rest of the month |
