These badges

https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewProjects.do

The badges are earned via computing time rather than credits

Project Badges: There are 11 levels of badges awarded based upon how much computing time a member has contributed to each project:

Bronze - 14 days
Silver - 45 days
Gold - 90 days
Ruby - 180 days
Emerald - 1 year
Sapphire - 2 years
Diamond - recognizing higher levels of contribution of 5, 10, 20, 50 and up to 100 years of computing time

EDIT: I will be hunting ebola because I do not like stuff ruining my meat supplies, that must go.

(1) WCG is the one of the oldest DC project still running and still producing relevant results.
(2) The badges have been invented by WCG.
(3) As Sir LanDroid posted, you will get some even with old-fashioned, old-timer computers - no need of a credits, just a run-time #ni-2
(4) Some time ago we have lost a biggest shrubber in WCG (moved to the another team), so now we need as much power as it is possible, so we (I, but also the mankind) welcome any and every new shrubber willing to give a helping hand.
(5) Thank you In Advance #ni-1

The bread is what makes the difference. Regardless of meat or brain. WE NEED BREAD NOW AND FOREVER!

Because we create a critical mass of awesome that causes any server we congregate on to spontaneously form its own black hole!

If you are not shrubbing 24/7 keep away of The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 sub-project - it has long time slots between checkpoints, so if you have to shut-down or restart your PC, you will lose lot of work #Mad

Go here https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewMyProjects.do and uncheck this sub-project

And go here https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewBoincProfileConfiguration.do?name=Default and uncheck it from here also

Cheers #ni-2

Can someone explain the points system on WGC (since the forums seem to be always down, or something blocks my access). I have over 250K points on the WGC site itself, but when it shows up in the BOINC stats it's only showing about 37K. What is this difference? Is there a way to understand how these correlate?

Quote:
How are points calculated?
Points are calculated in a two-step process which attempts to give a consistent number of points for similar amounts of research computation. First, the computational power/speed of the computer is determined by periodically running a benchmark calculation. Then, based on the central processing unit (CPU) time spent computing the research result for a work unit, the benchmark result is used to convert the time spent on a work unit into points. This adjusts the point value so that a slow computer or a fast computer would produce about the same number of points for calculating the research result for the same work unit. This value is the number of point credits "claimed" by the client. More information about that formula is available here.

Second, research results returned to the servers are validated in a manner which depends on the research project. Then the claimed points for valid results are examined for anomalous (excessively high or low compared to other machines computing the same or equivalent work unit) values and adjusted accordingly. The servers assign the resulting adjusted point values to the member (and team) for each of the returned work units. This process eliminates the ability for malicious users to tamper with results and artificially claim higher points for their work.

This comes from https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=points#177

The for more info click here link goes to the boinc wiki here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BOINC_Credit_System#Cobblestones

Hopefully this helps Sir Bear

I know how points are calculated, plus I read the WCG pages. It still does not explain why they post a stat at their local site, but then send off a different stat to the 3rd party sites.

As I stated, I have on WCG over 250K points, but when you look at the 3rd party stat sites I only have 37K points. There is a lot of difference there. I would suspect the answer would be in their forums, but since those are not accessible for some reason (I get the error "Error 500: Error executing SQL in MessageFolderDAOImplJDBC.create. " every time), I am unsure where else to find the information except to ask those who have crunched for a lot longer than I.

For example, in your stats you show you have done over 79K, but on WCG you show over 555K.

Found the answer.
However, you should know that seven (7) World Community Grid points are equal to one (1) BOINC credit.

So 37K BOINC points is 259K WCG points. This now makes sense to me.

https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=points

In short, your WCG points should be 7 * your boinc points. It has something to do with their old point system that involved more than just boinc. Nowadays though it's just boinc, so if you get 100 points in boinc, you receive 700 WCG points.

Shocked
