It has been a while since we focused on Einstein. Looks like there are 6 sub-projects to shrub, will have to get details on what those are later.

Moved up to 3 einstein and one bitcoin unit at a time which should give a boost, but these take ~7/8 hours per unit so it'll be slow at roughly 1000 points each _________________

I'll return CPU (three cores) and GPU to Einstein soon after the 10/11th. Got a backlog of other work to clear. _________________

Quote: | Einstein@Home: Upload server problems
Einstein@Home is experiencing problems with its upload server. Currently result upload is not possible. Clients may back off from fetching more work until they could upload and report the finished work. We're frantically working on a solution. Detailed discussion can be found in the Technical News forum . |

Is there a way to stop BOINC from trying to upload? I suspended the project, but still have 4 trying to upload. _________________

Update:
Quote: | The scheduler is now running to accept reports. No work will be sent out until tomorrow though, when we'll decide about a new/replacement upload server and possibly a new upload URL.

Gravitational Wave search S6Bucket Follow-up #1 is now sending work, and only that. This means GPU, Android and other CPU projects are not and most likely will not be until hopefully sometime tomorrow. There is a limited amount of the units and may run out before they get things back online. _________________ Watch the movie about me The 4-1-4s: The Original Teenage Hackers (It is only about 12 minutes long.)

Still can't upload to Einstein...at what point do I decide they've wasted enough of my bandwidth by not allowing me to "suspend" the task until they resolve their problems? _________________

Uploads have been more or less stopped again until they repair their file system. The constant trying is BOINC and no project can suspend it. You can do some changes to limit bandwidth, but if you suspend network then no uploads or downloads can happen.
As for making changes to the main BOINC code, go to Berkeley's BOINC message board and make requests there. |

Uploads are actually kinda-sorta working. Here's advice from an Einstein Forum Admin. Takes longer than he suggests, about 20+ minutes to upload about 50 of 'em.
Quote: | Open BOINC Manager at the transfers tab. Select them all by clicking the first one and then shift-clicking the last one. Click the "retry now" button. If the process stalls, or if a significant number of the entries reverts to "retrying in ..." just click the retry button again. Rinse and repeat until the entire list has cleared. This might take several minutes for a particularly long list of stuck transfers but the entire list cam be cleared this way.

Yeah, I hammered their server for like 30 minutes and finally got them all to upload. _________________

Updates posted yesterday:
Quote: | We set up a new server with a new filesystem, and new upload handler configuration. Apparently working better than ever before. Validators and the rest will remain turned off until the old data has been sync'ed to the new server.

We set up a new upload server and enabled uploads for the time being. So far the performance is just fine - as it should be. However, we're still transferring data between various servers which is why validation and assimilation are still not online again. We experienced some additional network problems (thanks to Murphy) which slowed down the overall progress. We still hope to be done with the full restore of the project by tomorrow. Crossing fingers...
