Friends,
As an Admin/Forum Moderator of the Milkyway project I have been given advanced notice that their NSF grant has not been renewed and the project is in jeopardy of ending.
Fairly soon a major fundraiser will begin in hopes of raising $40,000.
I would like to see the Knights take this on as a personal goal to help out--start saving any pennies you have.
I will pass any info along as it comes.

Kickstarter sucks. AFAIK, they take 30% of risen funds, what is unacceptable for me in case of funding project as MW (or any other DC project). I would send some donation to the selected projects (MW included), but only directly to them. Not via some KS-type money-takers.
Well, a few sub-projects in WCG have already finished because of ended funding, MW (and probably SETI) might be the next.
Sad, but c'est la vie. _________________

Kickstarter won't work. Kickstarted you need to show a specific goal to end--something tangible. This is operating funds _________________

Come on, the university can't afford to run a server and pay for bandwidth?
Operated largely by grad students, about as close to slave labor as possible nowadays. _________________

But imagine the salaries for scientists behind the project(s). Who is going to pay them? _________________

Fundraising and budget details are coming out soon.
A few details I was made privy too:
1) The $40,000 to be raised is the bare minimum needed to run the project
2) Dr Newberg is giving up her personal salary from the project for the summer
3) Grad students will still get paid as normal _________________
