I switched over from the Collatz Solo's to the Mini Collatz a few days ago to try to gain some hours on the WUprop for that. (even WUprop doesn't like my GPU and only looks at a small fraction of what it does).
So I blew through the Mini Collatz in no time when Collatz went down.
With Poem down, there are a limited few programs that will use my 4870 ati and Einstein is NOT one and I can't help the Chinese hack computers by shrubbing DistrRTgen with it either.
So Milkyway is my GPU program of choice... kind of a default, fallback position.

For my SP ATI I moved over to PPS Sieve. For the NVidia I moved it to do some more Genfer to help in clean up. Also it is helping get my next WUProp level in those. _________________ Watch the movie about me The 4-1-4s: The Original Teenage Hackers (It is only about 12 minutes long.)

Quote: | The Collatz server is currently down due to a hard drive controller failure. New hardware should arrive in the next day or two. A complete rebuild of the operating system, BOINC, and the Collatz software and project setup will then need to be done prior to the project coming back online. As this will be a complete rebuild, there is no sense hanging on to any completed workunits at this time. So, go ahead and abort any workunits you have whether they are complete or not. I expect the project will remain down for the next 10-15 days while I set it all back up and test it. Sorry for any inconvenience. And yes, I will make up for the lost credits once everything is back up and running. |

Crap. Well I just looked at the election results for January to determine a back up project, but there was a six-way tie for second, so I guess it's open season as far as GPU for the rest of the month...

Poem should have a test server up soon to test out the new gpu app. I'll post links here as soon as I see it. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

The notice on Collatz is the original one with the 10-15 day outlook. Problem is there was no date put on the note and no other status updates, so unsure where things are in the process.
I liked when he had a to do list better. Made you feel like work was actually being accomplished.
Oh well, my GPUs sit on PG for now. Fast NVida is running GFN-WR (getting WIProp for this finally). It will finish in the deadline, so I may just let it do this for a while and get some heavy credit for the work. Slower NVidia is running GFN (combination will get me to 10M credit and new badge soon). ATI is running PPS Sieve (also helping my WUProp credit). I might move the slower NVidia over there to help boost that after the 10M gets hit. _________________ Watch the movie about me The 4-1-4s: The Original Teenage Hackers (It is only about 12 minutes long.)

Server has returned. News is:
Code: | If you haven't already done so, go ahead and abort any Collatz work units you have in your cache. Yes, even the ones that are complete. The disk corruption was such that the file system (workunits and result files) did not match the database so I had to cancel all of them so the system can be in sync when it comes back online.
Since the project was already down due to a major disk failure, I have taken the opportunity to make some additional changes to the Collatz infrastructure and software including:
The network speed has been increased.
The firewall has been upgraded.
New application versions will be released.
The server operating system, database, and BOINC software are all at the latest versions.
OpenCL CPU applications will be added.
There are still a large number of tasks to be completed before Collatz comes back online. At minimum, it will be another week. Thanks for your patience. |
FYI: Badges are currently missing on the new server. _________________ Watch the movie about me The 4-1-4s: The Original Teenage Hackers (It is only about 12 minutes long.)

Quote: | Collatz Back Online with Solo Collatz Only
Collatz is back online but there are a number of changes. First, all applications are OpenCL based including the nVidia and CPU applications. If you wish to use your CPU on this project, you will need either the Intel or AMD OpenCL driver installed. See the project home page for more info and links.
Second, all new applications have been deployed for all platforms which do additional internal validation and also gets all platforms back to the exact same code base. They all use the same config file format so they can be optimized the same way as the v4.xx application.
The validator will NOT accept data from versions as the output has changed slightly with the addition of v6.xx. While I hope there will be no problems with the new applications, I expect Murphy's Law will prevail.
I still have work to do to be able to grant credit for any lost pending and in progress work units, but it is planned. 4 Feb 2014, 23:10:58 UTC |

I know this was for the PotM, but I wanted to update about Collatz
Collatz will only now have a single project, Solo Collatz. The others have been merged into Solo. So, depends on the "speed of your machine" which size unit you will automatically download. There are 4 sizes. The largest size is like the Solo, the smallest like the mini, and a couple others in between.
Smart idea, but now we can no longer gain mini and regular Collatz in WUProp.
Oh well, at least the project is back and working well. Now we can make it either a CPU, GPU or both project in the future. _________________ Watch the movie about me The 4-1-4s: The Original Teenage Hackers (It is only about 12 minutes long.)

I connected my HTC One phone thru NativeBOINC to the Collatz after changing my prefs to "Use CPU".
After the phone gets done shrubbing 8 POGS WU's, I'll get started on these new Collatz Android files.
My intent and hope is they will just download by themselves to the phone, since I selected "No more work" for the POGS.
One thing great about the Android, it adds MegaHours to the WUprop.
... takes all day and then forever to do a bit of shrubberization. _________________

I think I am a jinx on Collatz. I show up there as a backup project for my Android and it's down again within a day or so.
I will never gain much on this project if it doesn't stay up. _________________ Watch the movie about me The 4-1-4s: The Original Teenage Hackers (It is only about 12 minutes long.)
