Quote: | TheSkyNet POGS is a research project that uses Internet-connected computers to do research in astronomy. We will combine the spectral coverage of GALEX, Pan-STARRS1, and WISE to generate a multi-wavelength UV-optical-NIR galaxy atlas for the nearby Universe. We will calculate physical parameters such as: star formation rate, stellar mass of the galaxy, dust attenuation, and total dust mass of a galaxy; on a pixel-by-pixel basis using spectral energy distribution fitting techniques.

The acronym POGS stands for two things. One is the Pan-STARRS1 Optical Galaxy Survey. There are 3 Ni!'s awaiting the first person who can post the other meaning.

"The acronym POGS is a reference to a game played with discs, that originated on Maui, Hawaii, in the 1920s; and the fact that the Pan-STARRS PS1 telescope, is situated on Mount Haleakala, Maui."

(I'm sure Mifun was referring to this...) _________________

Hey Phreddie, I think that was actually orange barrel that appeared to have the green swirl. Just a guess. Ouch! My cheeks hurt! _________________

Well, I am gaining a bunch of trophies so far. I didn't realize there were trophies for RAC along with points and other special events. I had a bunch of classic trophies also. I just counted 68 different trophies I have earned so far. Hard to keep up with all that, but hey I am getting hours on WUProp and I guess I am gaining something over here.
Maybe we can help finish one of the galaxies they are working on? Wonder if that would be a trophy also?
Here is a listing of the groups I have trophies in so far:
Storage Wars, Astronomers, Elements, Daily Planets, T2 (whatever that means?), Specials and Classic.
I also want to know how they came up with the Avatar on the Dashboard site? _________________ Watch the movie about me The 4-1-4s: The Original Teenage Hackers (It is only about 12 minutes long.)

Seems i cannot manage to get my rac over 1000 here because there is so much pending stuff that has not given me points yet. Since the 18th of November I have finished 89 tasks which only gave me 13,903 total points which averages to only 156 points/WU. Kind of nuuuuuuts, also Pooh Bear you have a bunch of credits from the source finder thingy, which is how you have so many total despite ur boinc score.
I think T2 was there second attempt at running POGS that happened a long time back (when they first introduced POGS as boinc) and that is why there is a trophy _________________

Three loud Ni!'s each to Mifun and Phastphred for the POGS puzzle.
I got more mileage out of this than I expected. I remember when my kids used to trade Pogs. _________________

Great, now POGS has issues. Downloads sticking which causes you to run out of work. It seems they may have a filename problem. Someone noticed the filenames have a question mark in them which is an illegal character in Windows and probably most other OSes.
Let's hope they get it fixed soon. _________________ Watch the movie about me The 4-1-4s: The Original Teenage Hackers (It is only about 12 minutes long.)
