CONVECTOR is a research testing project, which use volunteer computing. Now we calculate optimum of discrete optimization problem, at first the optimum of 10-bar truss is searched for. Note that we need approx 8500 cores/days (one core count is 23 years). You can participate by downloading and running a free program on your computer.
CONVECTOR project is the first attempt to volunteer counting on department of mechanics, CTU Prague. |

Well, you're doing great, even if it IS just one!
Blurf was already in, and Plomos just joined!
Only four days in and we're already over 15,000!

It looks like ~45pts./core-hour on that shrubber, so ~1100pts./core-day. I suspended POEM for a while to use all 4 cores, so in theory it should produce ~4400/day barring BSODs and having the modem need reseting while I'm AFK. _________________

I'd say just put yours on something easier to contend with!
I'll do these, besides, this is not even a Vault thing yet is it?
Make it easy on yourself, and thx for the help thus far! _________________

OK, I'm in. but I'm a bit confuzed...
I can understand the search of gravitational waves to help
locate pockets of dark matter...
but I don't understand the purpose of this project.

Ours is not to reason why. Ours is but to do and die.
What a hobby.

http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/iht/cadproject/pdfs/Genetic%20Truss.pdf
Quote: | ... a new multiobjective optimization technique based on the genetic algorithm (GA) is introduced. This method is based in the concept of min-max optimum, taken from the Operations Research literature, and can produce the Pareto set and the best trade-off among the objectives. The results produced by this approach are compared to those produced with other mathematical programming techniques and GA-based approaches using a multiobjective optimization tool called MOSES (Multiobjective Optimization of Systems in the Engineering Sciences). The importance of representation is hinted in the example used, since it can be seen that reducing the chromosomic length of an individual tends to produce better results in the optimization process, even if it’s at the expense of a higher cardinality alphabet.
|
In other words, We Shrub Because It Is There...
(I found this quote from another site, but it is related to the use of Computer Programming in obtaining an optimal Ten-Bar Truss) _________________

Ooooops: spoke too soon, new applications not working and now I am having problems with the tenbar3_test 4's
3 computational errors out of 3 finished plus:
2 debug reports that look like this:

I've started getting computation errors too. The server canceled all my tenbar4 WUs. It's still an alpha project. I'm switching my i5 back to Cosmology and POEM-GPU for a while. _________________
