I've been in communications with an Administrator at Free-DC. I ask if it would be possible to include the Total Results like they do the Total Credit in there webpages,
example http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?p...=eah&team=6105.

I was informed that that information was not included in the Projects exported files. He also agreed that such a modification to the exported files would be the authority of BOINC.

When I told him that data such as Total Results would be a useful tool in encouraging new members to join a crunching recruitment effort. That while there are many who are encouraged by credits/points, there are some who value results as a more encouraging indicator of work accomplished. His opinion was that such an inclusion of data should not be that difficult to implement.

Since WCG provides that info for its team members, why not include it for other Project's data.
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/te...rdsPerPage=100

I am posting this thread to recruit support for this concept. If enough Projects and project teams support this initiative, perhaps BOINC can be persuaded to implement this modification.

Respectively,

Seems like most Knights are stats junkies, so not many would argue against including total results. Although I just noticed one depressing fact: in WCG, KWSN is 70K results behind team "My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic Community". Embarassed

Actually what I like best about WCG stats is the "Total Run Time". This takes the quality of hardware out of the picture, so some bloke running crappy equipment can still get respect for shrubbing 3 months or a year on a project (and get a shiny badge). KWSN has crunched over five hundred and fifty-five years on WCG. Pretty cool fact.

If we're gonna lobby Berkeley to include total results, we should also push for "total run time". More stats = more opportunities for tanutage.

Thank you for the post. For me, whatever I can use to encourage new members to use their computers to crunch for a good cause.

If you have a broken down laptop that can only produce 10K points/credits a week, but returns one hundred results toward a potential cure for cancer which your mother or sister died from. That gives the member a warm and fuzzy feeling where he/she lives. When they post the effect this has on their lives, that gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling where I live.

I've seen/read about this at PCHF where I've been crunching since 2008. I'd like to encourage this good feeling to be spread to as many projects as I can. IMO, there is something about points/credits by themselves that just does not have the same effect. But, taken together with Results, you have a powerful weapon to fight with.

And, what is the mission of a Knight or Droid, if it is not to fight for good.

There are projects, like PrimeGrid that the total results are meaningless. For example I can crunch 1 PPS LLR which gives over 5 times credit as a PPS LLR Extended. Both are the same thing to the project, but now your stat is really a misnomer.

Plus in the cast of PrimeGrid, tasks take longer today than they did yesterday. They are not even in size since the numbers being crunched are getting larger all the time.

There are many other projects with varied sized work, DDM comes to mind.

SETI removed those when they went to BOINC, because they knew 1<>1 with the different type of projects that could use this platform. Dr. Anderson was very adamant about not counting each unit as a statistic and I am sure after all these years he will not change his mind.

This comes from someone who was there in the beginning. There are others on this team that can attest to my statement about this.

Should I call you Pooh or Bear? Laughing

A statistic is a statistic. Ignoring it does not make it go away. You can stick you head in the sand, but it will not keep the Lion from having you for lunch.

Besides, age has a way of changing ones mind. At least it did for me.

I also like Run Time the most for exactly the reasons you mentioned. This might also link to our Sir Wizzard's effort to find as much as possible arguments to encourage people to join DC.

Low-end / old HW producing less credits will produce also less results, so I don't think this stats would be motivator for joining DC.

IMO, in case of WCG, Total run time (and shiny badges Very Happy ) is the best to motivate people to start shrubbing it even if they can afford only some old PC/rig to this.

Good luck and #ni-1

Driod, take a look... http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=8337#48840.

I used some of your suggestion to boost the idea. I don't know what else I can do. The right people will either see the post and agree with the idea or it will fall on deaf ears.

Here's to better data for us all.
