Due to a relentless tie between Collatz Conjecture and Poem, KWSN will shrub both projects this month.
Protein Optimization with Energy Methods
By joining this project you will contribute to a computational approach to:
- predict the biologically active structure of proteins
- understand the signal-processing mechanisms when the proteins interact with one another
- understand diseases related to protein malfunction or aggregation
- develop new drugs on the basis of the three-dimensions structure of biologically important proteins.
- simulate miscellaneous nanoscale systems, which are of importance for current biological or physical research

Collatz Conjecture
Collatz Conjecture is a research project that uses Internet-connected computers to do research in mathematics, specifically testing the Collatz Conjecture also known as 3x+1 or HOTPO (half or triple plus one). It can run on an nVidia GPU, ATI GPU, or CPU.

So this is the "keep doing what I've been doing all the time" month?
I've been shrubbing these even before I joined KWSN _________________

I read somewhere Lady Colleen needed help making POEM work on her Intel SomethingOrAnother GPU -
BOINC only lined up CPU POEMS, not GPU - I don't know what .XML file(s) she needs to edit...
I'll Tag-Team to somebody that may be able to help her out there...
Asus K55a Laptop, 6GB RAM, Intel i5-3210M (2-Core@2-Threads each), 2.5GHz, Intel HD 4000 Graphics,
(OpenCL works on it, but I don't what to tell her how to DO it, to implement it, or what else she may need),
Win8 64-Bit, System is almost new, like a few Months old...
I suggested to Download the Intel 64-Bit Driver, v9.17.10.2932 and see if THAT made BOINC do GPU work

Lady Colleen should also try updating the Boinc client to the latest test version, currently 7.0.52. During the install make sure you do NOT select a certain option that disables GPU's, don't recall exactly what that is something to do with running under reduced privileges? |

BOINC is already 7.0.52, and I see where the GPU specifically can be turned off, under Activity, and that is 'Use GPU Always', of course!

Yours has " app_info.xml"
What does POEM require in that file? And where is it? Any others? _________________

The app_info.xml file will tell the client to shrub more than one WU simultaneously to use more of the GPU's capacity. I usually shrub 3 on a HD5770, 4 on one HD5870, 2 on another HD5870 that's not up to snuff, 2 on a GTX570 (could do 4 but want some cores for DDM).
I'm not familiar with 4000 series, let's get her walking before she runs.
I'll look at Poem site. BRB _________________

Just to get started:
Have her reset the project. No app-info or app-config is needed to get it to run 4000+ series GPUs.
Bear in mind that poem does not always have gpu work available. so look in the event log and see what it says when contacting poem, whether it be an error or simply no work sent.
Get it running in this fashion and then attempt tuning to make it run more efficiently.
I'm working like a mad henchman but I'll try and poke at this later also if it doesn't work or Sir Gemjunkie doesn't get it lined out or the toothfairy doesn't steal the shrubbery.
Wow, I think everything just tasted yellow for a second!

Try un-checking 'Use CPU' in your account preferences @Poem and manually update the project repeatedly, as soon as it says "Scheduler request completed", hit it again. May take 5-10 min. to get WU's. _________________

I apologize for not catching this at first.
Intel CPU. Yes boinc can detect it finally. No, there are NO projects with an opencl_intel application. At least none that I know of. Poem, Seti and Einstein do not, I stopped looking there.
I saw the 4000 and my mind went ATI.
So, until someone develops an application for intel's onboard gpu, the only boinc it can do is let you look at the manager. I think before the year is out we will see apps that support it, just not yet.
I need to pick up a can of beans to throw in the crock pot with the pork roast I have thawing. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

I missed that too.
Have her ditch the laptoy and get a computer.
Won't canned beans be mush by the time a pork roast cooks in a crock-pot?
Could have soaked dried beans in the time it takes to defrost a roast.

That help page is slightly out of date. Boinc itself does now support intel's graphic set (you proved that above). None of the boinc projects have an app for it yet though. Be patient. I doubt they would have added boinc support if none of the projects would make an app for it.
More importantly,
The recipe I was given says to drain the crockpot with with two hours left and add beans and bbq sauce for the last two hours. I was going to use Bush's baked beans. I've never crock potted beans before so I really hope it doesn't turn them into mush. Bigger problem is it's just me eating off this so I'll just be eating at beans at first to avoid having to reheat them again afterwards. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |
