The eye should reach the Jersey shore, centered ~100 miles SE of where I am on the south shore of Long Island in ~2 hrs. The electricity has flickered twice already this afternoon, a lot of small branches have fallen from the trees from ~50-55mph winds. Widespread blackouts predicted, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. _________________

Yeah, the wind is picking up. All but one shrubber is on a UPS but the power just started flickering again so I'm shutting down, probably until at least tomorrow afternoon.

OMG! Power went out 2 hrs. after my previous post, just came back on 5 hrs. ago. 5 days without electricity starts to feel like forever. We'll be throwing out a ton of food. A large curbside Maple tree got blown into the street and pulled up 16 feet of sidewalk, a piece of fiberglass awning went down the block and some fence sections blown down. Otherwise OK.
Curly (a cat) missed the heat from the computers, he insists on being in bed under a blanket 23 hrs/day. _________________

Thanks, so good to not feel trapped in a dark corner although can't go far with the fuel shortages. People are sitting in gas lines for 24hrs. Don't ask me how. _________________

Glad to hear you're ok. I'd advise staying with Curly under the blanket for a few days! _________________

I was up on the north half of the island where there are some low hills last night. Old Country Rd. just west of Rte.110 was blocked by trees and very large cables laying across half the road. Still areas blacked out.
No gas lines last night. Maybe the odd-even rationing works? Kudos to BJ's Warehouse Club for not raising prices, $3.739/Gal
Loads of out of state utility trucks on the roads, thanks guys. _________________

Glad to hear you ore ok Gem.
My immediate part of Queens was ok. Several blocks over lost power for a few days. My main shrubber at work was down for a week...but so was the rest of downtown Manhattan...
Most people are back to power now, those with houses that is...
Scary stuff.
Anyone that is friends with me on FaceBook should run over to my profile and see the pic of me that my wife posted of me out cleaning my gutters (again) DURING the hurricane. I was expecting some serious rain, but thankfully did not get it.
Next purchase is a generator... _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!
