VOTE like it was a Presidential election! Except for the cheating.
Projects who didn't survive the heated primary season due to lack of work or tech problems:
Eon - bouncy work server
Leiden Classical - 20 projects max on ballot, something had to go.
Quantum Monte Carlo - project servers are (still!) moving.
Correlizer - work
ABC - work
Climate - tech problems |

The Fight Malaria project is in the process of changing the credit system, so it seems better to wait a month with it -
Quote: | Hi everyone,
We are currently working on a new credit system which will ensure that everyone is awarded a fair amount of credit. The current system is failing as some users are receiving far more credits than others for the same amount of work.
To fix this we will predefine the amount of credit for each workunit. The amount will be based on a multiple regression of previous results from my own trusted hosts. It will likely be ready early next week.
Thanks to everyone who has pointed out these problems.

Unless you're a real loony (and I know there's some here) avoid Test4Theory project. see http://boinc.ucd.ie/fmah/forum_thread.php?id=58#356
Can we remove this from the POTM list until further info? _________________

Since Wing Commander Kings Own is off in Living Hell a.k.a. Disney World, I'll proxy vote for Seti for him as I know he's doing it.
That's it folks, time to pack your bags and go home, this is history, Elvis has left the building, etc etc
(unless of course he returns soon - if one can return unscathed from Proto-Gitmo) _________________

Um, Hello...
I voted for Constellation (but then failed to be able to sign up) so I switch my vote to DDM instead (not that any of the 'top 3' look that interesting) which gives it 4 (virtual) votes now....
...Wonder if that one will let me sign up.
Ni!

Test4Theory has not been on the PotM. I'd like to shrub it, but can't get the VM to do anything and will fuggedaboudit after reading that! Perhaps we could add LHC Classic next month? |

I've had private word come to me that Test4Theory is having leadership issues among its staff. Not a good choice right now _________________

Poor primaboinca it pays good credit and you can really ramp up your RAC in it. Maybe next month.

Btw: I have installed my other 5870 in my main box so I am now running 3 GPU cores. Since Poem looks like the PotM for next month and it steals a CPU core I will only have one for the CPU PotM.... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

I'm shrubbing 4 WUs simultaneously on my 5870, so it's using 4 CPU cores.
1 WU takes ~47min=2925pts, ~3734pts/hr
4WUs take ~62min=11700pts, ~11322pts/hr
A 5870 can shrub 6 if you have enough threads/fast enough CPU, but diminishing returns >4

How do you do that? The cores are running around 30% so I should be able to run 9 Wu's at a time... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

You need an app_info.xml file in the Poem data folder.
This is the one I'm using for the 5870:
Quote: | <app_info>
<app>
<name>poemcl</name>
<user_friendly_name>POEM++ OpenCL version</user_friendly_name>
</app>
<file_info>
<name>poemcl_1.3_windows_intelx86__opencl_ati_100</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>poemcl</app_name>
<version_num>103</version_num>
<avg_ncpus>1.0</avg_ncpus>
<max_ncpus>1.0</max_ncpus>
<flops>4.0e11</flops>
<plan_class>opencl_ati_100</plan_class>
<file_ref>
<file_name>poemcl_1.3_windows_intelx86__opencl_ati_100</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
<coproc>
<type>ATI</type>
<count>0.25</count>
</coproc>
</app_version>
</app_info> |
Placed in
C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\boinc.fzk.de_poem\app_info.xml
You need more cores or use separate shrubbers. _________________

Ok, well I lost about 15 Wu's when I restarted Boinc..Damn, but it's now running 5 Wu's. Two cards are at 40-45% and one is at 22%. I changed it to .5
I guess I need to buy an 8 core CPU... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

Yeah, POEM used straight is OK, but when you add more WUs via the app info, it really flies. You'll see that most of my POEM production has been on a little ol' 5770.
I've been running .75 CPU with 4 WUs on a quad. That gives pretty good production, leaving one core for a CPU project or for everyday use. Best production always seems to be a full core per CPU. _________________

Well with the app info xml you gave me and changing it to .5 and I left the cpu at 1, I am running 5 Wu's on the 3 cores and 90% cpu with 0 cpu projects running. So I don't think I should go any higher even with the headroom on my Gpu's, I am only running a Quad core 940 Deneb. Each Wu is taking ~50 min so only 5 min more than with 3. However, I am not doing any Cpu project at all now.
Ps: don't forget to install the 12.11 Beta 4 drivers. They gave me a 40% boost. It was only 30% on Milky, But that is nothing to sneeze at either.... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......
