Yesterday, I eclipsed Sir MillenniumKnight in total points on F@H.
I take little pleasure in this, since he (and a few other venerable knights) have been at this since 01-Jan-2004 (according to EOC stats) - possibly before?
This now puts me in the #4 position on our team (total points).
And sometime within the next ~24 hours, I will have achieved the 10 million point threshold.
Yes, I am trying to get to the #1 position (currently held by Andy Barber with a whopping 7-million+ point lead on me).
And a few of the knights are (thankfully) giving me a run-for-the-money, too!
Anyone else want to "school" me? (it's for a good cause!)
Sir Antigens is staying ahead of me (for now), and Sir CrunchyFrog has been spanking me (on PPD) from time-to-time.
I enjoy the challenge/competition!!!
A special F@H thank-you also goes out to- Sir Morbus
- Sir Gemjunkie
- Sir stooper101
- Sir Eleomosynator
with whom I have had the privilege to converse with on this forum.
And also, THANKS to all the other Knights who are currently contributing to F@H.
Some are newbies, while many others have been consistent contributors for many months (or years).
Every WU and every point counts - for two reasons:
1) F@H is a very worthwhile humanitarian project
2) We - the KWSN - need to re-establish our prestige by regaining a position on the top 100 folding teams (the loonie-magnets are much more effective up there!)

If 5% of the listed members were active on the forum, we'd have something.

Heck, if BOINC stats were indicative, if half the listed members were actively crunching the Chinese would be held at bay from our offensive A lot of the people I have been passing up in stats of late are peeps that have 0 RAC with 0 points over the last month at least.... _________________

I also left in early 2006 because Boinc agent caused freezing and crashing of my computers, and went back 3 weeks ago.
Glad to found you here, alive and kicking

What sort of target price you have in mind?
CPU crunching only, or GPU too? _________________

I can understand the "sticker-shock".
Folks living in UK and EU are subjected to VAT.
And, there are those pesky, hidden import/export taxes, too.
Ouch!!!
I was browsing a UK site for some tech (a few weeks ago).
The listed price for a certain GPU was around £535 (incl. VAT)
The same exact GPU in the US was around $580.
£535 x 1.56 (exchange-rate) = $835, which is $255 (£164) more expensive.
YIKES!!!! _________________ Click here for...KWSN F@H team summary at EOC

and for those for us who live "out in the sticks" of Europe, it's UK prices plus some ... _________________

I am but a poor squire and have spent all my allowance of small bushes and a white picket fence.

We used to dream of an allowance of small bushes and a white picket fence. We used to live out in the woods and eat leaves ... err ... I'm a moose that's what we do.
mmm ... carry on! _________________

That would explain a lot. The surburban dream of a semi-detached, a couple of kids and a bored housewife living next door.

You need to become a "Bottom Feeder", that is how I afford my rigs. I paid $280 for a used 580 GTX. Expensive? Sort of, but half new price. Made it possible for me to crack 10 mill GPUgrid in the next few days.
A good graphics card will perform just as well in an older PC.
Tiger Direct, eBay Best Buy, OEM websites. I have another 580 coming that was "B" stock on the EVGA website, again half price. New EVGA motherboard $40 was just delivered.
The savings are dramatic,if you go one step behind the leading edge, the performance becomes affordable.
The reason things are more expensive in UK/Europe is that manufacturers charge what the market will bear. _________________

My machines were rescued from being sent to Nigeria, or where ever PCs and laptops go to die these days. Cost $0. _________________

I think you will find (with a bit of diggin' ) that the venerable Sir Millenium Knight , has been arrrround for a bit longer (The name is a clue - Umm and a few other names/aliases's ) .
HIS Production was awe'some , on mainly one UBER BOX , plus some others - hence his ranking today after ~ 4 years of stop . He was the top world wide producer for some years .
His name is Tom .
