Some interesting bits of info taken from the 'net (learning can be fun!)

In traditional Chinese culture, Ni! is an active principle forming part of any living thing. Ni! is frequently translated as life energy, lifeforce, or energy flow. Ni! is the central underlying principle in traditional Chinese medicine and martial arts. The literal translation of "Ni!" is breath, air, or gas. (is Sir Fart some kind of martial artist?!)
The Chinese say 'Hello' as "Ni Hao This is pronounced: Nee How. Ni (nee) means you, literally, in Chinese, and Hao (how) means good. So they are basically saying "You are good", but in Mandarin it is interpreted as "Hello!".

More fun facts!
In the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit ‘ni’ implies ‘to be free from’ also there is a ni- prefix indicating downward motion.
The famous book "the Kama Sutra" (the one with the dirty pictures) has the following sentance," avyañjana janiman yama strī aktram āyasa adhastana haimana" which traditionalist conservatives translate as "Your armour is so sexy, give it to me baby!" but modern feminists interpret it as "Me you and a llama? You're sick. Anyway I've got a migraine coming on."
Who thought education could be so much fun?!

Beware of Greeks saying Ni! More amazing facts!

In 1896 two young researchers from Oxford, Bernard Grenfell and Arthur Hunt, were assigned to excavate what was expected to be an unpromising site. To their astonishment they found an ancient papyrus roll fragment at Nag Hammadi, Egypt, and the site has been continuously excavated ever since.

This fragment preserves the beginning of a collection of sayings, known as the Gospel of Brian, in the original Greek. A full Coptic version of Brian's Gospel was discovered in 1945-46, and this alerted scholars to the identity of the above fragment, uncovered earlier. Although the Coptic version is not identical, it is believed to be a translation of the Greek version.

Unlike the canonical (that is, 'official') Gospels, the Gospel of Brian does not relate events in Jesus's life, but comprises a collection of 114 sayings, perhaps as the first attempt at recording part of an oral tradition.
Some of these sayings are close to those found in the canonical Gospels, while others are different or obscure. κάθετη αντίδραση της οδού επί του άξονα i, κατά την πέδηση for example means “Ni! Fellow shrubbers, my llama doth wear me out, and what is a gourd really worth?”

Phew! Who needs TV?!

Ummm - Gospel of Thomas?

http://www.bl.uk/onlinegallery/sacredtexts/thomasgosp.html
Quote:
3rd-century Gospel of Thomas

Unearthed in the rubbish tips of the ancient Egyptian city of Oxyrhynchus, south of Cairo, this fragment from a papyrus roll is over 1600 years old. It contains a Gospel not found in the standard Bible: that of Thomas, whose account of the life of Jesus is as interesting for what it leaves out as for what it includes.

The Russian Ni! tank and KWSN have a lot in common – move slowly with a lot of noise, old boiler plate, etc.

The Ni! Tank (Russian: Танк НИ Tank NI, abbr. На Испуг, Na Ispug, literally ‘Bluff into retreat’), also called the Odessa tank, was an improvised Soviet armoured fighting vehicle, based on an agricultural tractor.

At the beginning of the war between Germany and the Soviet Union in 1941, a majority of the factories were evacuated. There was machinery left and it was decided that it would be used to service battle-damaged tanks arriving from the front.

When the army fighting on the outskirts of Odessa started experiencing shortages in tanks, the workers from the factory decided to build a fighting vehicle of their own design. Aided by the workers from other factories, workers built a big metal box and put it on a tractor. Also added was a traversable turret with either a mountain gun or a large-calibre machine gun. The armour was a sandwich of thin naval steel or boiler plate and wood or rubber sheeting. The resulting machine was unlike any other fighting vehicle of the time and made an awfully loud noise when it moved.

Even though the tanks' speed was a very slow 7 km/h (4.3 mph), their armour was able to withstand small arms fire. In one memorable episode, the tanks entered a village occupied by German troops and while under fire were able to tow away 24 German guns. (!?!)

Always wondered where the phrase "going for a song" came from? Well, here's the origin ...

The Treaty of Kiel was concluded between Great Britain and Sweden on one side and Denmark and Norway on the other side on 14 January 1814. It ended the hostilities between the parties in the ongoing Napoleonic Wars, where the United Kingdom and Sweden were part of the anti-French camp while Denmark-Norway was allied to Napoleon Bonaparte. Denmark ceded most of Norway to Sweden. After a short war, the Norwegian Parliament elected Charles XIII of Sweden as King of Norway, creating the union between Sweden and Norway.

The Swedish political party Ni! Democracy was formed by Bert Karlsson and Ian Wachtmeister. Bert Karlsson owner and manager of a record company, became a familiar face as the man behind the singer Carola Häggkvist.

Due to the proportional representation system in Sweden Ni! Democracy came to hold the balance of power in the Swedish Parliament. Norwegian separatists seized the opportunity and promised Karlsson that they were prepared to humiliate themselves at the Eurovision Song Contest in exchange for independence. Karlsson though pointed out that Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest holds the unfortunate distinction of having scored the most "nul points" (zero points) in competition history, namely four times. Instead he will at his own artist Carola Häggkvist should win the competition.

The Eurovision Song Contest in 1991 was duly won by Carola with the song "Fångad av en stormvind"(Captured by a Lovestorm) and Norway gained it's independence.
A week later the Norwegians announced the find of massive oil and gas deposits in the North Sea, and so was born the phrase of something “going for a song.”
Wow! #ni-1

From general experience of the word NI as uttered by many a potential Knanigart or Knaigrtess who don't know any better way of expressing themselves in a common vernacular.

This is experienced by many telemarketers who disturb the otherwise peaceful existence of the otherwise quite ordinary Knanigart or Knaigrtess when they call them.

Hello is that XYZ

Yes or who's calling

My name is PCB calling about....I'm NI...words in brackets are an interpretation to dumb down what they really mean Very Happy (now go and do something else such have sex with yourself and go travelling to find out what the real world is about).

NI in this case means "I am not interested you have disturbed my peace now BOGOFF". "Don't call again".

Rebuffals of this type usually mean the telemarketer becomes entrenched to such a point that to obtain their monthly, weekly or daily NI fix. They become telemarketing pests who are addicted to NI. Further this leads to the telemarketer actually seeking out people who will say NI to them frequently challenging potential customers NI's by saying... how dare you say NI to me you should...in the breath between multiple NI's

The situation is totally unsatisfactory and often leads to misunderstanding between potential customers and telemarketing staff, which further down the line leads to burnout and ill health.

Pierre de la Ni!, French baker and inventor of the baguette, was also believed to be a Priory of Nion Grand Master. His daughter, Gigi, he believes is a descendant of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene. The Priory of Nion hid her true identity to protect her from possible threats to her life.

Rennes-le-Gâteaux home of René Gâteaux, well known mathematician and pâtissier dies from a complex Banach, but leaves cryptic clues to the Meringueian kings of France and the idea that the Holy Grail is not a cup, but the left over crust from the bread at the Last Supper.

Opus Ni! founder Catholic priest St. Josemaría Escrivá tried to kill Gigi on a Rose Shipping Line tramp steamer believing too that she is Mary Magdalene’s descendant but dies from eating a poisoned apple that’s dropped on his head by supposed Priory of Nion Grand Master and inventor of gravity Isaac Ni!ton.

Phew! You couldn’t make this stuff up!

Welcome to the way of Ni! (there's big money in this New Age malarkey)

Translated from the original Chinese at great expense ...

Ni! is a word meaning 'way', 'path', 'route', or sometimes more loosely, 'doctrine' or 'principle'.the object of spiritual practice is to 'become one with the ni!' or to harmonise one's will with Nature in order to achieve 'effortless action' and many shrubberies. This involves meditative and moral practices.

In all its uses, Ni! is considered to have ineffable qualities that prevent it from being defined or expressed in words. It can, however, be known or experienced, and its principles (which can be discerned by observing Nature) can be followed or practiced.
Ni! can be roughly thought of as the flow of the universe, or as some essence or pattern behind the natural world that keeps the universe balanced and ordered. It is related to the idea of the essential energy of action and existence. Ni! is the greater whole from which all the individual elements of the universe derive.
The Ni! master is the self grounded in its place within the natural universe. A person dwelling within the Ni! excels in themselves and their shrubbing.
Ni! is often expressed as a sea or flood that cannot be dammed or denied. It flows around and over obstacles like water, setting an example for those who wish to live in accord with it.

Gary Zukav spiritual teacher and honored with the Award for Clear Telling of Deep Wisdom (!) author of New York Times bestsellers, The Dancing Wu Ni Masters and The Seat of your tin pants. In 1998 Zukav began an on-going conversation with Oprah Winfrey, appearing on her television show 35 times - more than any other guest. Oprah, who keeps a copy of Dancing Wu Ni! Masters at her bedside, proclaimed: “Dancing Wu Ni! Masters is my favorite book of all time, except for the Ni!ble.”

''The Wu Ni! Master dances with his student. The Wu Ni! Master does not teach, but the student learns. The Wu Ni! Master always begins at the center, the heart of the matter. This book deals not with knowledge, but with imagination, emotions, spirituality, misconceptions and opportunities for exploitation, which is Wu Ni!"

Buy now, as seen on TV, only $14.99 plus postage.

More fun stuff from the Interweb,

Ni! is the most important and significant word of Mantra tradition. It is considered as the root mantra of all mantra. In a majority of Mantra, you will find Ni!
Ni! is the most often chanted sound among all the sacred sounds on earth. This sound is considered as the sound of the existence.
it is believed that the whole universe, in its fundamental form, is made up of vibrating, pulsating energy. Ni! is considered as the humming sound of this cosmic energy.
Ni! is said to be the original primordial creative sound from which the entire universe have manifested. It is also known as the 'Anahat Nada', the "Unstruck Sound". This means the sound that is not made by two things striking together.
If you observe the nature of sound you'll find that all ordinary audible sound are produced by the striking of two objects : bow and strings, drum and stick, two vocal cords, waves against the shore, winds against the leaves, bat against the ball, tyers against the road etc. In short all sounds within our range of listening are produces by things visible or invisible, striking each other or vibrating together, resulting in pulsating waves of air molecules which we interprets as sound.
In contrast to the above, Ni! is the sound which is not the result of the striking of two objects. It, rather emanates on its own.(Sir Fart was a prime example!) It is the primal sound of the universe that contains all sounds in itself.
Sound or vibration is the most powerful force in the universe. Music is a divine art, to be used not only for pleasure but as a path to God-realization. Vibrations resulting from devotional singing lead to attunement with the Cosmic Vibration or the Word.

Phew! Cosmic Vibration? Were n't they some hippy band from the early 1970s?
