On 25 Dec 2011 13:31:28 UTC, PrimeGrid’s Sophie Germain Prime Search found World Record Twin Primes: 3756801695685*2^666669±1
The twin primes are 200,700 digits long, eclipsing the previous record of 100355 digits. They will enter Chris Caldwell's The Largest Known Primes Database ranked 1st for twins. This is PrimeGrid's third record twin.
The discovery was made by Timothy D. Winslow of the United States using an Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz with 8 GB RAM running Windows 7 Ultimate. This computer, using LLR, took 9 minutes and 21 seconds to complete the primality tests of both primes. Timothy is a member of The Knights Who Say Ni! team.
For more details, please see the official announcement (coming soon).

I posted this reply to that announcement on PG:
I knew I had found another prime yesterday when I saw it in the pending list, but I never thought it was a Twin Prime. I woke up this AM to see an e-mail stating I found a Prime number and thought it odd because I was doing SGS to get my Ruby and knew SGS was no longer charting. I didn't read the e-mail immediately as I have a routine I go through before tackling e-mail. That routine had me stop at PrimeGrid. Then I saw my name highlighted and I froze.
I am still speechless a couple hours later after reading this news. Persistence paid off. I wonder if they'll make a special SGS badge for me to show I found the Twin Prime now that the project is essentially over?
Congrats to PrimeGrid for being the project that has the ability to make someone like me a world record holder (for now). |

Those are some mighty big twins. Hopefully the birthing process was not that difficult.
Was this done doing the PSA side of PrimeGird?

Sir Mohorless,
How many primes have you found? By your total PrimeGrid score you must have found a prime or two.

It was not done on the PSA, it was found on the regular PrimeGrid side. I am just under 200K to get my Ruby in SGS. Then I am going to concentrate a little more on PSA and a few other projects. |

This got me so excited I, errr, "trumpeted" in pleasure. Knocked a water tower down 50 kilometers away, drowned 7 people . _________________

Only 7 people? That is low standards even for you.

I think this could qualify me to have a better title than a Prince. Anyone with a good suggestion? Also, who has the power to make the change? |
