Distributed Data Mining - the quest for gold. November 2011.
The URL for the homepage: http://www.distributeddatamining.org/
The URL for your boinc manager: http://www.distributeddatamining.org/DistributedDataMining - Note, this is found in the 'Supporting dDM' section.

Remember, you need an updated version of Java to run dDM without problems. When in doubt... http://java.com/en/

There is currently two applications: Medical Data Analysis: Laryngeal video classification & Time Series Analysis: Stock Price Prediction OSW and you can choose what you want in your account page.

Let's go get 'em!

Thanks for an, at least tonight, working link....

Oh, and stock market prediction; eek. Yeah the project isn't directly tied; but since the advent of the robo traders that buy and sell stocks at computer speed, in large volumes; and all the market volatility these robo traders add with several hundred point gains and drops every day, I'm well one non-robo; human that would keep his money outa the roller coaster ride. #ni-1 It's certainly added a lot of volatility, with I think I read somewhere billions of trades per day, which computer programs are now making on the DOW. It's enough to leave actual human being's heads spinning with the speed the computers can fluctuate the markets now Laughing The result can be like a 250 point drop or more, in just 15 minutes, I think I read during one of these changes during a given day not all that long ago.

OK, it won't run. It claims my computer doesn't have java, but it does. I even went back and grabed the lattest version again from the java download page, re-installed, and it's just erroring the work units.

Only possible things I can think of is if it needs the lattest BOINC manager, mine's 6.12.15 and is the x64 version (well it's a 64 bit CPU and Windows 7 Pro 64 bit version OS)

- Java is the 64-bit download of it, perhaps the software is 32-bit and doesn't like that

- The path does, as it suggests, needs to be set manually in BOINC, though where, hmm

As to getting the newer version of the BOINC client, the BOINC sites at Berkeley seem to be timing out, and were yesterday also; so the official download site from the SETI/BOINC crew, has been offline for awhile now. Wonder if Berkely college is having more network troubles or something....

The Boinc Server issue is a known issue:

The BOINC download server is offline, and will remain so for a day or two while we effect repairs.

IIRC, you need to install the 32-bit JRE. You can have both 32 and 64-bit JRE's on your 64 bit system.

Running the 32 bit version of java here and the project does well so go ahead and try it as Gem suggested. If that doesn't work then try updating boinc client. Check your messages in the client and see what sort of error it is throwing if the problem persists

OK, it's running now. Actually i think I had both javas present on an earlier version of Windows, but installed Windows 7 earlier this year (or maybe it was last year now), and installed pretty much what I need.

I have tended to try to avoid 32-bit software where possible though; largely due to this lil memory issue, I remember having read about sometime back, though not finding an article on it now. It basically involved running 32-bit software on Windows 7 64, and a very slow memory leak which would occur over time; with the suggestion "remoot more often" (well on a laptop probably not an issue), or use 64-bit software where you can. This laptop (which could use some upgrading rather badly) can get tight with 2 GB (though on a duel core CPU, so yeah with BOINC it's the project x2), and having no dedicated video RAM (so has to share it with graphics)....

I've been running dDM periodically over the last couple months as well as full-time now, and have noticed this problem as well. The WUs will sit there and back up for a little while, waiting to upload. Then they all go through. I can't say I've run out of work. Other than that, things seem to be running smoothly.

Ni +Hi Sir P

Just run the command prompt , and make sure you have "clicked" the net icon in the directory , and all is automatic . If you loose your connection , Muon will keep on going untill the connection is restablihed , and automatically upload the auto-saved work .
Glad to see you helping !! (Only 190 million needed to take Russia Shocked )

Yes every 10-30 seconds if I am running a game it bugs out and requests to send an error report. The error report lists 2 files it wants to send in the report. There is no specific error code though.

Its been driving me nuts for weeks now.

Either I run BOINC and Java with no games or other programs, or I run other programs and games with no Java and limited BOINC.

Just don't know what to do since the latest release of Java 6. ??????

Currently uninstalled Java so I can at least play Diablo II Smile

OH and Assassin's Creed II Very Happy

I had one work unit I had to abandon when I woke up. It got itself stuck between 99.5xx% and 99.741%, and would just keep going back to the earlier % mark then progress forward. While asleep, that WU had been running in that stuck state for like 3 hours. All the other WUs complete in about 1/2 hour, of that given type, and don't keep processing the same .2% again and again, for hours on end, without hitting completion.

Bad WU, I'm gathering....
