|
|
By an overwhelming vote of 8 to 2, Milky Way is the GPU Project of the Month for October. Although this project has a large percentage of total KWSN points, it has never been PotM. We have an expert on our team - Sir Blurf is on the staff of the Milky Way Project - advanced LooNIness is guaranteed...
Quote: | Milkyway@Home uses the BOINC platform to harness volunteered computing resources, creating a highly accurate three dimensional model of the Milky Way galaxy using data gathered by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. This project enables research in both astroinformatics and computer science.
In computer science, the project is investigating different optimization methods which are resilient to the fault-prone, heterogeneous and asynchronous nature of Internet computing; such as evolutionary and genetic algorithms, as well as asynchronous newton methods.
While in astroinformatics, Milkyway@Home is generating highly accurate three dimensional models of the Sagittarius stream, which provides knowledge about how the Milky Way galaxy was formed and how tidal tails are created when galaxies merge.

DisTRgen is likely better for CUDAs, although it may require a CPU core to feed it. It seems to depend on the specific WU, but I'd recommend reserving a core. _________________

Moo! has been good (for my non DP ATI cards). DistRgen for my non DP CUDA has been on and off. They have an issue with validating fast enough and then it gets so backlogged they stop work until it catches up. They've made some changes and so far it looks a lot better. |
