that very few BOINC projects are compiled for IBM's Power 7 processor, or I'd get a few racks of these.
The only decision is which lottery to win.

What about a fleet of i7 2600k's ?? (Or is this the same thing ?) .
Look at what Bold_Seeker [DPKows is doing with 3 off in Spinhenge !]
Me , I wanna i7 2600k !! [ 67 type mobo of course !!]
Intel price revisions due in August , should be , CPU ~ £250 GBP [i7 2600k] , mobo {get the '67 chipset for overclocking !! ASUS or GigaByte} ~ £80 GBP , memory [6 Giggles ,DDR3 @1600 or faster ] ~ £60 GBP , decent cooler [Corsair H60 ?] ~ £60 GBP . Approx £450 inc the dreaded ! Don't overclock on the stock HSF !! { I've got my i7 920's from 2.66 to 3.8 Mhz with just two cmos changes - NOT on stock HSF though }
Now just gotta replace my cutting edge 3 year old Phenoms to the i7 series (i7 920 coming down to ~ £125 GBP next month - BIG bang for bucks as the Yanks say ) .
Time for us to upgrade Sir Al !!

I think you'd better win several lotteries.

Chances are they won't run Docking due to the Win7/Intel bug anyway, unless he swaps OSes. _________________

I must admit it wasn't the processors I was particularly taken with, but the packaging and cooling that caught my eye.
At 800W/quad processor module, 8 modules/2U chassis, 12 chassis/rack, plus memory/HD/etc., that comes to something in the order of 100kW in a 30"Wx30"Hx72"D rack! That's one hell of a lot of joules to get rid of.
The waste heat from that would comfortably keep me in hot baths. And the rest of the street.
Just imagine being able to cram, say, 2 of next year's AMD Bulldog 8-core processors/module - that's 1536 cores in a box the size of a dining table. At a conservative 2,000/day/core, a total of 3 million CPU boincings/day. And you wouldn't have to worry about plate-warmers!
And there's me, with my now almost prehistoric farm of Q6600s and 3800x2s, their numbers dwindling as the rigours of combat takes it's toll, dreamily drooling (or is that droolingly dreaming) of what might/could/should be.
Ah well. Back to reality...

Ahhh Cooling
Now that is a real deal. This baby shubber is keeping me warm at Knight currently running at a steady 62C Errrk it went up to a staggering 65C earlier today and I am worried that it will hit 71C and switch off. I walk into the room and the heat puthers out in almost noxious waves Lol. Not a good idea.
Phenom 1100T x 6 cores rated to 71C top temp Currently set at 3333.00 mhz which is the lowest it can run at.
Anyone got a few spare icecubes they can send me?

It shouldn't be running that hot at that speed. What kind of heat sink are you using? Are you sure it's seated correctly? Enough, but not too much thermal compound?
