Posted: Thu Jul 07, 2011 10:57 am Post subject: So you want the PSA badge at Prime Grid.... |
|
|
Here's how you do it....
First, download the appropriate file and unpack it...you will need 7-zip to do it....
http://uwin.mine.nu/PRPNet/
I usually save the download to the desktop, as it is easier to find and run the program.
After it is extracted, open the folder, and open the next folder....the batch files for setting up and running the programs are 2 levels down from the desktop....on my PC the address is as follows: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\prpclient-4.3.5-windows\prpclient-4.3.5-windows
Now, you need to set up the master config file. Open the master_prpclient file in WordPad.
Three lines from the top, enter your email address that you use for BOINC.
In the next section, enter your PG username, using underscores for spaces, if your name has them. For example, mine is {KWSN}John_Galt_007.
Next section, enter the name of your PC. I use the name I use for BOINC, so that I know which PC has what WUs.
Next section asks for a team name. Once again, no spaces....
The_Knights_Who_Say_Ni!
After all of this is done, you need to select which projects you want to do. i don't have any preferences, so I just pick and choose what I want, based on run time.
If you have a 64 bit OS, there are a few changes you have to do, and those are noted in the sections describing the various programs that are used.
Further down there are options as to what to do when the client starts. I leave it on option 3, unless I am moving on, then I will change it to option 6. You can do the same for the shut down options.
Now that the file has been changed to your liking, close the config file, saving the changes.
You will notice that there are 7 sets of batch files. Run the X-X-install-prpclient batch file for the # of cores you want to run. Now, run the X-X-update-prpclient-ini batch file, and finally the X-X-start-prpclient batch file.
If everthing is set up correctly, you will have X number of DOS windows open, and you will see the client working. You can minimize the windows, but they can't be closed, as that will stop the client.
Credit is applied every 2-4 weeks, at a rate of about 18 PSA credits to 1 BOINC credit.
Any questions, feel free to ask....
EDIT: Updated file download location.... _________________

I was doing this before it came all popular and trendy. You can choose the many different subprojects. Do not gret if you find no primes, not many people searching a wide range of numbers. Imagine only about 30 people out of all the PrimeGird people are doing this. I have a badge in this project. It will take a little while to get credit since it is done manually. Also the credit will be higher than the BOINC WUs since the credit is calculated on the size of the number crunched and not the time it takes to crunch, also no wingman needed.

Also it is an easy way to rack up some major credit scors in PrimeGrid. That is where most of my points have come from.
Also it does not seem to play well with BOINC, at least on my computer.

Not sure about a psp version but if you want to run it on a cpu and or don't have a gpu that will run these projects like me you need this link
http://pgllr.mine.nu/PRPNet/prpclient-4.3.5-windows.7z
The rest of the instructions work just fine
EDIT: Now that i've had it running on both cores for about a half hour i'm noticing that each core is turning in 5 tests at a time so credit could go up quite quickly at a rate of 5 tests every 20 minutes per core which so far has come out to 10 tests per core and 20 total
Bring on the prime numbers and credits ! _________________

Is there a way for me to keep track of how many prp credits i've accumilated? I know that the PG credits will show up in boinc, but do the prp credits show up anywhere? _________________

Or you can check the individual server pages on the PrimeGrid forum.

so with running this prp client even though there are different servers we can pick from and it seems therefore different projects we can run with it we can only earn badges for PSA and not the other projects like sieving and so on? _________________

Haven't had it submit any credits to boinc yet so can't comment on that but I am noticing something a bit odd. I was looking at all the servers listed in the ini file and noted that it had defaulted to running 5 WUs at a time from the PPSE low server. Just to see what one of the other projects would run I went ahead and attempted to change it so that it looks like this:
//server=SGS:0:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12000
//server=121:100:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12001
//server=FPS:0:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12002
//server=GFN65536:0:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12003
//server=GCW:0:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12004
//server=GFN32768:0:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12005
server=27:100:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12006
//server=PPSEhigh:0:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12007
//server=PRS:0:1:prpnet.primegrid.com:12008
// Additional servers from PrimeGrid
//server=ESP:0:1:pgllr.mine.nu:9000
//server=GFN262144:0:1:prpnet.mine.nu:11002
//server=GFN524288:0:1:prpnet.mine.nu:11001
//server=TRPDC:0:1:prpnet.mine.nu:11003
//server=SR5:0:1:prpnet.mine.nu:7171
//server=5OB:0:1:pgllr.mine.nu:13000
//server=PPSElow:100:1:prpnet.mine.nu:12000
//server=MEGA:100:1:prpnet.mine.nu:12010
which should mean that the PPSE WU's don't run and the 27 ones do, but i am still getting ppse low WUs despite having saved the ini file like this and restarting the client. What am i doing wrong here? _________________

Check http://prpnet.primegrid.com:12006/pending_tests.html ....you have a bunch of k=27 WUs.....
But, http://prpnet.mine.nu:12000/pending_tests.html shows that you still have a bunch of PPSELow WUs to complete....
Did you run the update-prpclient-ini batch file? If not, it won't recognize the changes....
