The Musketeers have invited us to take part in one of their Raids.

We sometimes do what we call Raids where we will join another team and give them a boost for 3 to 5 days. Usually we try to find a smaller team that is active (better with a forum but not a requirement) and help them along. When we do this we normally just continue with our normal crunching but attach to the other team. Would you guys be interested in participating in something like that?
Right now we have a couple of folks on vacation so getting the troops gathered (we are actually only a team of 13 or 14 active members) may take some planning.
If you are interested is there a team you guys would like to help out with some major credits over a 3-5 days period?
|
I thought it would be a good idea to try it once to see if we like it. The timing couldn't be better, not having a PoTM, and you have to admit, it's a loonie enough concept.
Might be fun, something different anyway.

That is something the KWSN team used to do. Though we often did it to mess around with team standings and stats.

I'm up for giving it a try just so long as we don't abandon our main projects for it
I mean a sudden influx of 10.5 mill credits per day would scare the Bee Poo out of anyone _________________ What is that in the Shrubbery?

Assuming that they even notice it. A team without a forum may not even check the stats for weeks, months or years at a time.....
How about....http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=teambycpid&team=Ministry+of+Silly+Walks
The entire teams RAC is 14024 _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

How about instead of whining like a little girl and wasting time finding a poor choice, you put as much effort into finding a suitable candidate.

Hi Guys,
What we try to do is find a team that is active, excited, but doesn't have a lot of horsepower yet. The goal is to boost them in the standings AND more importantly get on their forums and give them encouragement and make new friends. Quite often we can help them optimize their credits (assuming that is one of their interests).
The goal IS NOT to show them how "big and mighty" we are. It is to help them along in their BOINC endeavors.
Ideally we find a team with an active forum so we can join and actually have a dialogue. If the team doesn't have a forum it is quite boring!
I mentioned on our forums that a team like South Africa might be a candidate. They have a lot of members but not a huge daily output. They do have a forum but there is very little activity. This is just an example of what we need to look for. Look at thier stats and think what 10M+ a day would do for them!
One thing to note is look at the projects they are running. If they are a Seti@home only or CPU only type team then we will have less effect on their numbers. If they have the "big" GPU projects ... PG, Moo, Collatz MW, Collatz etc then we can make a huge difference in their standings. _________________

Interesting Comments Bryan
So we could become a hit squad for BIONC and do good.
As for CPU only we could do good there as well I am only CPU and have been ever since starting BOINC many years ago.
Errrm since April 2004 when I started, so any support I can give will be to CPU projects as a priority such as RNAWorld.
Currently trying to claw my way back up into the top 20 on RNAWorld because of all the big hitters and taking 24hrs off to do PG. _________________ What is that in the Shrubbery?

For those that choose to do this---have a good time. I like the idea but I've got some personal goals to jump on this vacation. _________________

You keep getting your personal points, attaching projects to another team for a few days only affects the team point awards.

We just need to convince the Ministry of Silly Walks to join us.
Also were a hit squad for chaos in the stats back in the good old days. Didn't really care much besides finding a small ranked team and just massing joining for a week or two and then moving on.

Another concept: find a project where we can help team "Free Tibet" or "Taiwan" beat "Team China".

You can use the [KWSN] with your name and help small Teams and the points go your team the same. This Sub-Teams "words" was done with that intention.
The idea was to give a hand to other teams and not lose your points to your team. I think this idea was from Bok, there is a thread somewhere with all explanations about this.
I will try to give a better explanation in a while with the links.

One day I came to help in investigation and people nothing changed from that day till now. So I didnt changed also. _________________ Friends are like diamonds and diamonds are forever.

I have been a part of a guest crunching team for years... Base Camp http://s2.excoboard.com/basecamp is a WCG team that goes on several treks a year helping out other teams...
And it always works out better when the team receiving the help has a forum and everyone can interact, kind of like what happened on the RNA challenge.. |
