BONIC is driving me screwy on this project.

All WU's are being done High Priority and it keeps switching WU's

Currently got about 6 that are almost 75% completed and been switched to other WU's



Just not able to spend the time baby sitting it to force WU completion

I noticed this in the current version of the client. It used to be that when EDF mode was enabled it would start with the WU due soonest, and complete it, then move on. Now when the deadlines are like in the same day, it seems to like to partially crunch a bunch of units, and not complete them along the way.

Of course if the proc was really over-commited, this sort of EDF mode could be troublesome. Completing the earliest first, then moving on would then assure that at least some units are complete. By starting them all, and then leaving them partially crunched, one would have a higher liklihood of having a whole bunch of mostly processed WUs by the deadline, but those will not have been turned in. Add up the percentages, and it would total many completed units.

Guessing it's a bug in the more recent versions of the BOINC client that could use addressing. I've noticed it with EDF mode on a whole bunch of other projects before, including some that had been around for ages, so it doesn't seem to be the science apps themselves...

Umm interesting.

It's only happened on this project so far for me. I don't do that many projects because I like to concentrate my shrubbing as I can only do CPU projects.

All the PrimeGrid runs I have done before were fine by the way.

Also noticed that my wing men are mainly the same person with a much slower puter than mine Errk

Hope I get some decent credits Lol

Set your cache to zero. Then the manager will download 1 WU/core, finish it, upload it, report it and request another. Just might want to watch out for the server's downtime for maintenance around 11:00-midnight UTC.

I'll give that a try tomorrow when I return from work. Already set it to 0.50 per day.

Largest proportion of WU's should be finished by 11 UTC tomorrow.

Any ideas about what I should do about my main wing man with a much slower puter?

I shouldn't worry too much about it - Challenge points are granted as soon as you report the WU, and the "real" Boinc points arrive when your wing flaps enough to get airborne.

The main reason for the zero cache, why give away a head start of several hours? A Pentium III can beat an i7 running a 10 day cache to the punch.
