|
|
Someone bemoaned the lack o' taunting of late, well actually for a long time... The concept of a project/taunt of the month came up and I figger we better start planning early if we want to try this... As the Python slogan says, "and now for something slightly different?" The idea would be to come up with projects to crunch and associated teams to taunt. For example one obvious candidates might be:
Docking / Flaming Birds
We'd need a few of these combinations to vote on... Or we could focus on one team to taunt on multiple projects? We could do this every once in a while so as not to become too obnoxious in the Boinc community? Need to explore this or go back to the traditional ballot?

There should be combos containing reverse taunts and, since we're at, impossible taunts. And of course the ever popular random taunts, to say nothing of the spam taunts!

Looney taunts are definitely needed. Postmortem ones would be a thought, too. A few untaunts thrown in the mix will confuse them all. |

A double reverse taunt with a Norweigan Blue twist is the way to go.

|

Well we need specifics if we want to make this TANUT work - any more teams/projects to put on the TANUT ballot for a vote? Maybe we just do the traditional ballot, but include a tauntability rating on each project? No I don't know how that would be determined.
Or again we could pick a team, say the Power Kows, and harrass them in every project we can... Maybe we just vote on which team to target.
The standard ballot would look about like this at the moment. Which team would we target in these projects?
ABC –
Edges -
Einstein –
Majestic 12 -
Malaria –
Milky Way -
Muon 1 -
Prime Sierp. Prob. (Non-Boinc)
Rosetta –
RSA Lattice Sieving -
Sudoko@vtaiwan -
Vacation / No POTM
I dunno - just trying to stir the cauldron... |

We just had Spinhenge as PoTH for Nov. 2010. Look at the thread with the loonie title "POTH for December '10 =>Spinhenge".

I think Landroid had a brain aneurysm or something, doesn't like to talk about it, so whatever you do don't mention it.

Maybe we should have two independent votes. One for the PotM and one for the team to taunt doing it. Then the only problem we would run into is whether or not that team even does work on the chosen project (though that could be a great taunting as well!)

Okay several good ideas here...
(1) Dual ballots for the project and the team. The possibility of taunting a team with zero production on a project is quite looNIe.
(2) Picking a team and taunting them on mulitple fronts is another concept - good research on the Kows by John Galt 007.
(3) Then there's the original concept where we vote on a paired project/team to tanut.
(4) Here's another concept: there are a few projects where we could surge and attain first place then tanut everyone . The prime candidate to do this quickly seems to be our current POTM, Distributed Data Mining. uFluids and Sztaki are two more possibilities. Edges is another possibility, but Planet 3D Now has very high production, not sure we could catch them. Let me know if you ID any other candidates for 1st place. This would be a longer term goal as it might take a few months, but could be fun. So the vote would be for which project to "go for the gold"...
We need to sort all this out in the next few days in order to determine a winner before the end of the month. |

Another possibility, check out another team's POTM and (hopefully) beat them at it.

We're not making much progress here - I guess we could throw all these ideas onto the ballot at once and see what happens, something like this:
Taunt Kows in all projects
Challenge another team in their POTM
Docking / Taunt Team Phoenix Rising
Go for # 1 in Dist. Data Mining / taunt everyone
Dual ballots: 1 for project 2nd for team to taunt
ABC –
Edges -
Einstein –
Majestic 12 -
Malaria –
Milky Way -
Muon 1 -
Prime Sierp. Prob. (Non-Boinc)
Rosetta –
RSA Lattice Sieving -
Sudoko@vtaiwan -
Vacation / No POTM
Any more project/taunt pairs other than Docking/TPR?
Any other projects to surge to # 1 other than DDM?
What other POTM's are out there? |

Ni + Hi all !!
Some observations :
1) Majestic 12 , excellant tanut there for Kows , BUT do not think of contributing there unless you have fast broadband , >10 Meg line , UNCAPPED and unlimited . This would be a reverse tanut as we are ahead of them . The project has a very low CPU overhead ~20% , so is excellant for running with something else to suck up unused cwycles .
2)Muon . Runs nicely in background and very little bandwith required , in fact you can set it to manual send and just dump when you want to . CPU use ~90% , so again something else to suck up unused cwycles . Plays well with BOINC and just about anything else . Tanut rating poor , Team Norway are Stats Ho's and are striving for the No one spot in the Vault (For several years , but have moved up 4 places in that time ) . Recent surge by Norway (100 million points ) took them way past us , we need minimum of 5 million a day , I can do ~500,000 a day with 23 cores @ ~ 2.0 Giggles . WHERE is the Dr when we need him ?
3) GIMPS : Will TOTALLY swamp CPU cwycles if you let it , and needs ~ 1month to complete one WU per core (ie , 4 units month on a quad) and that is just letting it run on a box doing NOTHING else !! Points are good though , Tanuts almost non exsistant .
4) :--------------------------
5) PSP : Not easy to set up , conntact SJG007 for walk through . Points are GREAT (best one in the Vault at ~ 350 a pop ) . Tanut rating fair (HardOCP and xtream) .
6) KWSN needs a lot more points in the medical section , virtually all Boinc projects (wich explanes why we are only in tenth place , too easy to run the projects ) . Tanut rating poor .
Hope this helps

Wow - Da Grizz musta subered up! That's a good analysis and I actually understood it! I agree with the need for medical points - KWSN should not be in 10th place in that sector.
Regarding Gemjunkie's suggestion, I notice the vote in team Boinc Synergy's POTM is currently 5 votes for Edges and 3 for Yoyo... Are the gears a turning? |

You forgot about Wieferich.

Wieferich does look interesting. Since Norway stopped crunching it, KWSN is less than 2 million from 1st place. Will try to remember to add this to the ballot next month... |
