|
Been looking at the stats for a lot of stuff since I returned three weeks ago.
Noticed we have a lot of members in KWSN. Around the 4000 mark. It seems that there are only about 25% or less, active or shrubbing projects, with even less using the Forum (not that I want the mods or admins to have more work....really )
So I was thinking about this and realized that other than my welcome to KWSN email and one email I requested for a response to a post in a forum, I have never received any mail from KWSN.
Humm...brain starting to heat up here methinks what would happen if we started to send out a regular newsletter about……well anything of potential interest to members on a monthly or bi monthly basis. Could this be used as a tool for:
1. Encouraging greater participation?
2. Would members use the forums more?
3. Is it possible that members would pull together for those important shrubbing events when credit is needed or we just want to spank another team for some reason (spanking in simply the best possible taste of course)
4. Would it help people to stay in touch if they are not able to participate for some time.
.........a) This is partly prompted by IamCrazyNow’s recent post in New and Departing Members and my time away from shrubbing. Basically I completely forgot about KWSN.
.........b) Had I been receiving news letters it could very well have been the catalyst for me to change my processor, cooling system and M/B earlier, rather than struggle with an overheating PC for over 2 years.
A news letter could be used for lots of other stuff...mainly teasers about:
1. Sharing of latest builds
2. Guide for tweaking components
3. Asking for support....would like a KWSN tee-shirt, coffee cup, dart board even Lol (Saw a thread where merchandise would be provided by Seti Shop…sadly the idea died. I was away at the time and had I known I would have bought a KWSN tee-shirt/sweat shirt)
4. Linky to KWSN forum so people can respond to articles in the news letter
5. Latest highs and lows on the world leader boards (who we have/who has overtaken)
6. Announcements e.g. Anniversaries, pitter pat of little feet (Lol last time I heard that my friends had bought a new dog)
7. Births, marriages and those who have gone off to the great shrubber in the sky
8. Any thing else that others can think of
Anyway over to you Knights and Knightesess _________________ What is that in the Shrubbery?

I suggested this quite a long time ago. I think it is a good idea but it seems that most Knights actually have a life, myself not included. Since the GPU revolution credits are cheap and there seems to be less competition both with other teams and within the Fortress.
I will vote with you but don't be surprised if you don't get much traction.... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

I like the idea now, as I liked the idea before. The problem is trying to get this silly bunch of loonies to decide how/who to implement. (let alone decide how the official spelling of "looney" will be used within said newsletter) _________________

I think a newsletter is a good idea. There are a couple of hurdles to overcome:
1) Talking the Admins into letting you use the mailing list for a one time mailing, inviting people to sign-up for a newsletter. I'm not sure we have any stated privacy policy about mailing people or not - we just haven't done it..
2) Presumably the forum software can do a mass mailing? I don't even know.
3) Administering the aforementioned newsletter. I think that would have to be separate from the forum. Personally, I'd like it on an RSS feed.
5) The official spelling is Looney!
6) The Larch.
Scratch #6 - wrong list!

The problem with a newsletter is that it is hard to keep it up after awhile. Me and a few other Knights who shall go nameless (forgot their names) we had a website just for all our projects with daily updates and the like and it gets difficult to do all the time.
