How important is motherboard face plate? I don't know if i have the term face plate correct. But the plate that is behind the PC that has holes in it to line up where monitor and other hardware plugs in. I got my motherboard, and it didn't come with plate with matching holes, and the plate that came with the case do not match. Can i just remove the plate and have nothing there, or is the motherboard supposed to touch that plate? My board looks like it has a tab that would be touching the plate. is it a ground of some kind?

I don't think the plate is important.
I think it's more of a cosmetic thing.
It sounds unlikely that the motherboard would use the computer case as ground.
I'd just try running it without the plate. In the unlikely event that the motherboard actually requires the plate, the worst thing that can happen is that the system won't boot. I don't think you could actually break anything.

That plate is the I/O shield, the computer should operate without it.
It will effect airflow, having an opening right next to the rear exhaust fan will reduce the amount of air drawn through the case.
The case is important as an RF shield, you may see interference with other devices like radio & TV.
Does the MB manual say there should be a shield in the box? Contact the manufacturer, if they can't supply one cross them off your list of suppliers.
You should try to install it now, it's sort of a pain in the neck to remove the MB later just to install it.
