After your stats show up, usually after 1 day, join the kNIghts team, found here: http://stats.distributed.net/team/tmsummary.php?project_id=8&team=3706

I don't get along very well with command line clients. Need super-detailed instructions on how to determine when stats show up, how to join the team, etc.... Sorry...

Stats update at midnight UTC. Setup is pretty simple on the portable clients, I didn't try the installer, just enter1>1> enter email address >0 to return to main menu, then 2>9 check to see only RC5-72 is entered in the work list or add =) after OGR-NG (OGR-NG=0) >0 return >0 to save and exit so the config file is created, restart by clicking the application exe. If you're using Win7 pin it to the taskbar.

I assigned my gpu to this project. Looks like my 5850 is shrubbing along nicely.

Isn't there a procedure for passing control to another team member when a founder leaves? Confused

For a project like this I do not think so.

Thanks Gemjunkie, that helped. I also found this:
Quote:
Your stats password will not be automatically emailed to you once you join one of our projects. You will need to request your password by clicking on the link at the bottom of your personal stats page. You must first access your personal stats page by entering your complete email address in the "Participant Search" form located at the top of most stats server pages.

Note that in order to be able to request your password from your participant stats page, you will need to have entered a valid email address in the client configuration menu, flushed some work units back to the proxies, and waited up to 24 hours for the stats server's daily update that will detect that you have joined distributed.net.

http://faq.distributed.net/cache/66.html

Sheesh, kinda tedious, but just sent some work so I may be on my way...

Oops, forgot about that, I joined a month ago, lucky if I can remember Friday. Embarassed

In 2 days we should be in the midst of the next 5 teams.

Production's ramping up nicely.

For such a long multi-year project, that seems incredibly stupid.

They do the ranking by blocks, are blocks the packets, the stats units or something completely different?

Didn't mean to imply you did. I thought whoever designed the distributed.net team system this way was stupid.

1 Block= 4294967292 keys

Packets vary, you can set a preferred packet size when you configure the client or leave it on automatic. You can set X=1 to 1024 to make the preferred packet size X*2^32. This is just a request the server will try to fill, not guaranteed. The only reason I can think of to change it is if you want to max out the input buffer when you'll have no internet connection for a while, but I don't know what the default packet size is.

I have a post in the help section for OGR, that explains client configuration and all that jazz. Plus notes on joining the team and shrubbing away happily. Just prioritize RC5-72 instead. Tis a fun project! simap finally died, so when my cache clears and the primegrid thing is over I'll stop all boincing and run this to the end of the month!

This is crazy...

Just FYI...

i5-661 do about 16 million keys per second on 2 (threaded) cores...
ATI HD5670 do about 200 million keys per second Shocked

What's up with THOSE numbers?!

Well there are a lot of keys to still go through, some where in the trillions.

The 5850 was doing 650 mil a second when i had it running, but I'm stuck with my gtx470 which only does about 320 mil. The nvidia control panel makes the ati control panel open the the cpu version if both are installed. So can't run both off the same machine, boinc can do it though.

It's not like cracking an intercepted cipher, here they know the encryption system and have both the cyphertext and plaintext, so checking the first 2 or 3 characters eliminates 99.9+% of the keys.

Also, computers are, like, bitchin' fast these days. Laughing

Yesterday we were 9th overall in production and about to move up a spot or two. Keep cracking those keys.

I noticed my GPU client was only runnin at about 1/4 to 1/10th of full speed alot of times if i didnt have my mouse over it, I assumed this is because of the process priority, and I was right.

I fixed it by changing the process priority with a program i already had on my pc instead of thru the client options menu. Just figured I would add that in for anyone that might think they aren't runnin as fast as they could be.

*Im averaging about 35M on my cpu, and about 2B/sec on my gpu (5870)

Great idea, didn't think about that, I'll try that out and see if my 5670 can produce more than 200mil/sec #ni-1

5670 should be closer to 300M. Remember it's a graphics card, if there's other stuff on screen, esp. animated stuff, crunching will slow down a lot. Just having the BOINC manager open to 'Tasks' on screen drops the rate from 1900M to 500M on my 5870.

Actually, when I was watching a Monty Python movie, my 5670 did 700 mil keys/sec, how loonie is that?! #ni-1

I'll lower the priority and check if I can get near 300 mil #ni-2
