New project alert: eOn - http://eon.ices.utexas.edu/eon2/index.php
Quote: | About eOn
A common problem in theoretical chemistry, condensed matter physics and materials science is the calculation of the time evolution of an atomic scale system where, for example, chemical reactions and/or diffusion occur. Generally the events of interest are quite rare (many orders of magnitude slower than the vibrational movements of the atoms), and therefore direct simulations, tracking every movement of the atoms, would take thousands of years of computer calculations on the fastest present day computer before a single event of interest can be expected to occur, hence the name eon, which is an immeasurable period of time.
The Henkelman Research Group is interested in calculating the long time dynamics of systems. We have developed a method for doing this through distributed computing where a server sends out small data packets for calculation to clients, e.g. over the internet. So, instead of the entire calculation being done on a single processor, it is done on many client computers worldwide. After finishing its calculation, each client computer sends it's results back to the server, which summarizes the results and sends out more jobs. |
Team has been created. Project still in the early stages, I have only just started to run a few tasks to test it out. Most tasks run pretty short, and the deadline is also pretty short. I wonder if they will eventually be known as eOn2?

I'm in!
But I doubt with the Boinc version I will be able to snatch the 22nd place overall (see Two_Sheds alias in original Eon).
Way too many people Boincing...
Non-Boinc projects are more fun!

But it is so fun to BOINC everyday.
Also I never placed high in non-BOINC projects anyway so it does not matter to me.
I have also signed up for this project currently at zero credits.

I have peeked in a couple times today and it seems like they have been really trying to put together their forum. One time, there is nothing, the next its the old forums, the next it's the old forums with a new section for the new boincing, etc... So, I imagine the server has been up and down sporadically. I'd keep trying every once in awhile, you'll get in one of these times.
Good news is that the project is not just sitting on their heels, they are actually doing something to try to get off the ground. Better than some quasi-dormant projects out there. _________________

I was using the link you gave to try join with, but you have to use http://eon.ices.utexas.edu/eon2/ to join. _________________
