|
|
Quote: | Collatz Conjecture is a research project that uses Internet-connected computers to do research in mathematics, specifically testing the Collatz Conjecture also known as 3x+1 or HOTPO (half or triple plus one). ... It can run on an nVidia GPU, ATI GPU, or CPU. |
Quote: | The Collatz conjecture is an unsolved conjecture in mathematics named after Lothar Collatz, who first proposed it in 1937. ... Take any natural number n. If n is even, divide it by 2 to get n / 2, if n is odd multiply it by 3 and add 1 to obtain 3n + 1. Repeat the process indefinitely. The conjecture is that no matter what number you start with, you will always eventually reach 1. It has been called "Half Or Triple Plus One", sometimes called HOTPO.

I switched one shrubber from Folding to Collatz.
Is there any way to get BOINC to run under a regular account? Why does a simple number crunching program need an administrator's account? The box was checked during installation to allow anyone to control it and I even used the properties box under the administrator account to change permissions to everyone, but under a regular account I don't have permission to open it. _________________

Production is up - 512.4K crunched yesterday. We need to watch Poland, they're 5 million points behind, but currently out-producing us almost 150K daily... |

I had an older ATI 2600 XT card that I am crunching with. It does a unit in just under 1.75 hours. I know it's not a lot, but at least it's a small amount of help, now that I got the dumb thing to work. _________________ Watch the movie about me The 4-1-4s: The Original Teenage Hackers (It is only about 12 minutes long.)

I know there are a ton of faster video cards that my 2600 XT, but does it really take nearly 1.75 hours on this or are there some setting tweaks I am missing? |

My 3 core CPU needs about 18 hours/ea so I may bail out of this one due to electrical/computational inefficiency... Maybe I need to buy one of those HD 4850'S...
I think we're in trouble, the Pollacks (are we allowed to say that anymore?) out HOTPO'd us by about 700K yesterday...

my G-force 9800GTX is 34 min
the 940 Deneb chip runs about 10 hours per core
and the lappy does one in about 4 hours on the onboard video
I put one of the 9800's in a friends comp that is not on the net right now and the loss is made up by the addition of 12 cpu cores, but just barely _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

The HD5770 was what I replaced the GT220 with, but I hadn't been using it for BOINC so can't compare. _________________

Have just joined the fray a week late - a few more gpu's and cores to come when I get to work on Monday.
My HD5870 is taking 6.04 minutes, and my 8800GTX's are taking 58 minutes. Might be time to overclock the 8800's, although they're about to get a serious working over when I eventually get around to installing StarCraft II on the SLI box.... _________________ Shrubbing inconsistently since 1999
