|
|
Greetings fellow Knights!
Sad to say, just shy of 1.5 Million Shrubs as I write this; due to various and sundry (and unfortunately, not silly) reasons, I am going to have to pull the plug on most of my farm. I can keep the Opty going (at least for now), my son's machine can still shrub, and likewise my new (Athlon X2) laptop. The rest is going dark, and I don't know when (or even if) I will be able to bring them back up.
The small bit of good news is my laptop is fairly productive, and can run WFO 24/7 without any sort of throttling. I usually keep it plugged in and shrubbing, and on a profile I created that doesn't turn anything off, even when the lid is closed. _________________

Thank you Sir. I guess I can still do that (do better at that), and maybe get better at supporting POTM, though my resources are much more limited.
What is the POTM, anyway? _________________

Sorry, but that's not much to go on. Did you add it just like any other project? _________________ A Shrubbery for Prez. Let's put more bushes in the whitehouse.

No, it wouldn't LET me add it like other projects. I tried that, and it said that new users have to do it via the WCG home page. So I downloaded their software and installed it. It now comes up with a WCG client (advertising their project) that won't connect. I suspect it can't connect, because it looks like BOINC.exe is no longer starting up.
I tried manually adding BOINC.exe and BOINCMGR.exe as firewall exceptions.
[edit] I just tried running it manually, and it said that zlib1.dll was missing. I'm going to try installing a regular BOINC client, and WCG can kiss my ass [/edit] _________________

Just doing a reinstall to my previous (non-WCG) version did it, though it STILL says "World Community Grid - BOINC Manager (localhost)" at the top (GRRRRR! ) My guess is that something's jiggered in one of the XML files, and I can't find it.
Anyway, I didn't even need the backup of my data folder, and it "knew" that I hadn't attached to WCG yet.
Yes, I'm being a good team player, and running WCG, despite their many and manifold sins and affronts. _________________

That is sad to here your farm is shutting down. Hopefully this is not permanent and you will be able to restart it one day.

Thanks, and it was a little late to unring that bell, though I kind of did, anyway. _________________

Thanks. It might be more accurate to say that I've had to cut my farm back to a garden. I pulled the plug on two dual-Xeon servers, a P4 box, and my dedicated linux box with my old AMD San Diego single core CPU.
What's left is my Opty, my son's 3400+ Venice, and my new X2 laptop, which can run WFO 24/7 with no cooling problems. _________________

I believe you might need a capacitor for your flux then.. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

Hi, sorry to hear, you're (partially) leaving?!
Just recovering from the 2nd surgery, this year .
It appears, some men (me) aren't "build", the way it supposed to be . . . . ' '
This Vicodin does work, but I'll become addicted, if I don't back-off, in time . . . ' '

"The hypothalamus controls body temperature, hunger, thirst, fatigue, and circadian cycles."
Isn't that an optional part for Knight? _________________
