There's a simple reason it went boom again... Milkyway has been as dead as a doornail for over a day now with talk of HDs having taken a nose dive, available and pending WUs being at 0, and the transitioner sitting at like a 34,000+ WU queue.
So yup, Milkyway's servers took a dive, and all the traffic went to Collatz _________________

I ran Seti for about 6 years and now my Collatz Shrubs have passed my Seti Shrubs.
I have been running Collatz for 4 days _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

You need BOINC 6.10.13 or higher for the auto update to work, and you need to NOT have used a manual app_info file.
The versions do not match in number between apps. The ATI app is 2.06, and the ATI app 2.05 is what was causing problems and all WUs from 2.05 are now auto discarded and 0 credit. The CUDA (Nvidia) app is still on 2.03 and did not have the same problem. It's also not as optimized, which is why it's still on 2.03 hehe.
Smurph, the funny/sad thing is that MilkyWay gives even more credits. I'm doing just under 100,000/day with every GPU on Collatz, and my HD4870 was doing 80k/day just by itself on MW. Think they're still ATI only though, and blown up right now anyhow (waiting on new server hardware).
Here's where my cards have settled (only the HD4870 is probably still changing, the rest have been running Collatz only for awhile):
HD3650 integrated (laptop), stock clocks: 6,756.83/day average
HD3450 stand-alone, overclocked a lot: 6,971.18/day average
HD4650 stand-alone, overclocked a lot + NV 8400GS stock: 27,030.10/day average (around 2k/day is the 8400GS lol, tried 2 8400 and it did not like that)
HD4870 stand-alone, stock clocks (750 core, 900 ram): 48,482.37/day average
I just bumped the HD4870 to 780 core and 985 ram, I'll keep an eye on what that does to processing time over the next few days and make sure I'm not hitting a bunch of VPU crashes and such. If it proves stable I'll push it a bit higher. Ironically enough I want as much heat as possible because my PCs are the only heat source in the house right now. Seriously considering that HD5850 upgrade soon to add more heat output lol.
Update: First 2 WUs through with the higher clocks (first one while ramping up, 2nd one fully done on the higher speeds) has bumped my average up to 48,643.38 (+161.01) already. I have high hopes the clock speed jump will push this machine up over 50k/day at least.
Update2: Stable all night at the higher clocks so I've bumped it to 790 core (highest it'll go via ATIs software) and 1005 RAM. Definitely seeing the times coming down a little. Be interesting to see if that translates into a steady increase in credit heh. _________________

NewEgg is out of 5850's and MicroCenter doesn't have any either. But MicroCenter is way over priced on video cards.
I could put all 3 9850's in one case and free up 3 slots for Ati's but I really should consider Xmas only 6 weeks away.... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

Yeah all the 57xx and 58xx cards are hard to find right now. ATI said they expected the demand to outpace production for months. The only reliable way to find them (in the US anyways) is Pricewatch:
http://www.pricewatch.com/browse/video_cards/radeon_hd_5850
Checking it just now only 3 places have them at all, and prices range from $269 to $339.
After doing a bit of digging I think I'm going to get a 4890 for now. $189 with free shipping is hard to argue with. Especially when the cheapest 4870/1GB card I can find without a heatsink that blows air into the case (stupid if you ask me) is only ~$10 cheaper lol.
Holy cow! I've put this one on alert for when/if it comes back into stock. $159 after rebate for a 4890!

And, as I should have predicted, the project has blown up again. Anyone heard anything? I occasionally get the site to come up but never enough to actually get all the way into the forums.
Shame, since my new HD4890 is sitting here next to my system and all. Ah well, guess I'll install it this weekend anyways to increase my Modern Warfare 2 experience. _________________

Before it went down, he posted that he was going to be away (holiday??) for several days - and if problems occurred he would do what he could remotely. Since the site is down, I hope HE can still get in |

I've had the same experience, and a couple times I was able to get to the forums with no news other than Slicker cut his hunting short for a death in the family, can't remember how much longer he said it would be. Last night I ran out of WUs with a bunch waiting to upload. They were gone this morning, but no new ones.
The good news is MilkyWay got their parts for the new server. They just have to get them installed and configured. AND looks like Travis is a Dr. now. _________________

Yeah I was finally able to get into the website for Collatz, but no luck uploading the 80 WUs I've had sitting for 2 days now. All this real-world needs to stop interfering with my BOINCing. _________________

Collatz is showing signs of life. All my completed WUs finally uploaded, and my main machine is getting 1 WU every once in awhile. I imagine the validator backlog and such is pretty ferocious, so it'll take a day or two for it to spin everything back up but at least the process has started.
I've already started overclocking the 4890. It's up to 865 core (from 850) and 1000 memory (from 975). Stable so far, and cool at about 70C with 31% fan. I can only bump it while it's under load, to make sure it's stable, so I'm slowly creeping the clocks up each time I notice a WU in progress hehe.
Still getting frequent page load fails and upload timeouts from the project, but any life at all is an improvement.
Up to 885 core and 1025 ram clocks. Each WU is a bit different so it's hard to get an accurate gauge on the effect of the changes, but so far I've got a low time of 744 seconds on the new clocks. We'll see how that comes out in points eventually, to see if it was just a short WU or a result of higher clocks.
By comparison my seriously overclocked 4870 ran 831 low and 886 high times. The card is also still running way cooler than my 4870 did, using only 33% fan to stay at 62C core and 74C memory. The 4870 was running 55% fan to stay below 80C.
Looks like the card has plenty of headroom left. Given that it cost me about what my 4870 cost when I bought it, I think it was worth it. Upgrades are fun!
Now to stuff the 4870 in my g/fs PC and get some points movin! _________________

I only ran it on the 9850 cpu. that is an AMD Quad core running at 2.5 stock speed. _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......
