It's been rather quiet around here for a while. We lost a lot of posters a while ago. Somewhat listless around here now. Even Michelle only pops her head in on occassion. _________________ Fetch me the Holy Hand Grenade!

I've had trouble with crashing hard drives (I only have one pc), I've been averaging 6 drives per year. This means that shrubbing has become problematical, ie I haven't done any for a year and I've been feeling bad about it.
Hence my absence. _________________ [img]http://boincstats.boincstats.com/search/all_projects.php?cpid=8fbcb4ce48ba412ccbb4337d9d2bf18a.gif[/img] |

Beats me; I've only had 5 defectives in the last 6 months or so.
[edit]Oops, I dived in a bit quickly there - my duff ones are PSUs, not HDDs; maybe I should read the post before replying to it. [/edit] _________________ Creationists believe they never evolved; I agree with them.

Wow! That's something! I don't get how shrubbing is so hard on hardware, and I'll take your word for it. _________________

This forum is (usually) blocked from work, so no chance to even lurk from there.
Distracted at home as whole family has got sucked into playing Mafia Wars on Facebook.
Need to get a life (real or virtual )

Hmmm... looks like tabloid sensationalist journalism to me.
Without a revenue stream there wouldn't be a game in the first place.
Easiest way to avoid being scammed is not to follow the something-for-nothing links... (TANSTAAFL) _________________ (Sir Furry - Occasional member of the Migratory Coconuts)

Actually if you do some more digging you'll find that they were doing such lovely things as sending fake invites labeled as coming from your friends to surveys and such that not only sold your information but signed you up for PAY services. It's not made up, the CEO of the company that makes Mafia Wars and Farmville bragged about how they get their funding at a seminar about how to be successful on Facebook.
By your logic the fact I need to pay my car bill this month means I'd be totally ok robbing a bank or starting a scam to steal old ladies welfare checks as long as I didn't get caught. And if I did get caught, well, those bills have to be paid right? Sorry, I don't think what they did (and are doing) is OK, and by playing their games you are giving them more money.

So I funded the company myself but I did every horrible thing in the book to, just to get revenues right away. I mean we gave our users poker chips if they downloaded this zwinky toolbar which was like, I dont know, I downloaded it once and couldn't get rid of it. *laughs* We did anything possible just to just get revenues so that we could grow and be a real business…So control your destiny. So that was a big lesson, controlling your business. So by the time we raised money we were profitable. |
So, yeah. Pardon me if I think he's the scum of the earth and am a bit peeved that you'd rather support their continued action than stop playing a game. Good on ya. _________________

I think the point there is "they were doing" rather than it being a current practice. I know for sure that a lot of other well known businesses have done (and in some cases still are doing) similar (and worse) things.
I'm also still not sure how playing a free game is giving them money?? |

They make their money from the advertising and from scamming users. As for it being past tense, it's gotten more tame, not stopped. And the fact they did it at all shows pretty clearly the kind've people they are. Glad to see you're so accepting of their actions, and support their actions by continuing to create income for them. Hope your free game is worth what it's cost the people that company has scammed and stolen from.
Whatever, you've made it clear you don't care, so I'm going to stop wasting my time. Cheers. _________________

I have been busy for awhile at night applying for jobs, and that goes late into the night at times. Not leaving me much time to visit the forums right now.

still around lurking, and as for Zynga, all their games have two forms of cash, one free (Coins) and "paid for" (notes usually) I just make sure I only use the [deleted] former....
