|
|
Please vote for the project that you prefer for Project of The Month from the list above. The concept is KWSN members should allocate as many crunching assets to that project as feasible during the month of November. See additional team stats in my signature.
Stomp Factor
My subjective rating of the number of teams we could stomp during the month.
Zero = We're solid, but probably can't move up.
Low = We might move up 1 or 2 places with some luck.
Medium = We could move up say 3 to 5 places.
High = We should stomp a bunch of teams on this project! _________________

Sorry, this one snuck up on me, so I decided to just go for it without a planning preview. Vote quickly - I'll be on Thursday and leaving for vacation on Friday, so the election may be called on Weds 10/28... |

How well does RCN pay? We could move up quite a few points in the Vault with that, IF it pays well and works well.......
I don't have any experience with that one _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

It pays all right. WUs range from either a few seconds to 4 hours. Been awhile since I have done that project.

Great job, Al Dente. Next month I'll probably drop the Stomp Factors and let folks analyze your chart... |

Relative points vs SETI@Home:
ABC: 1.6290
Collatz: 0.6393
Docking: 2.2649
Leiden: 2.2956
RCN: 2.0873
Previous PoTM:
POEM: 2.1553
GenLife: 3.2003
Enigma: 2.5740
^ These numbers are same hosts on both projects, basically how many points you get in Project X for 1 point in SETI@Home. i.e. for the amount of computational work it takes to get 1 point in SETI @ Home, you'd get 2.5 points from Enigma, 3.2 points from GenLife, and just 0.63 points from Collatz.
And if people are bent out of shape about POEM, RCN is going to be worse (if just slightly).
Also bear in mind that these are strictly "per work" measurements, and aren't taking into account things like crashing other projects, the manager, your PC, etc. For instance, Enigma should be more points in a month than POEM, but my same collection of machines have already done 50k more points (with 4 days left) than they did on Enigma because of stability and compatibility problems. _________________

Sorry I missed a couple of POTMs. I just kept running yo-yo, thinking that might contribute towards our holding our ground, anyway.
A quick look at my signature line in the last post indicates that I was doing pretty well with just my Opty and old P4 running yo-yo (and all my other shrubbers powered down). In fact, I passed 1,250,000 without knowing it.
Because of the return of cool weather, I've been able to fire up my two dual Xeon (w/HT) servers and my AMD single core Ubuntu box. For the time being, everything is running Milkyway. I'll keep an eye on what the consensus is for November POTM, and switch everything over to that.
