Yes, it is you, and MW has been out of work for nearly a day now.

Playing about a bit, I've managed to get Collatz working on my ATI shrubbers. Now running BOINC 6.10.6 & ATI 9.9, so I hope MW will run on that combination when it returns (when they turn up on Monday morning, perhaps).

Milkyway running outa work does seem a lil strange to me, based on what they said about the nature of their WUs. From their description, it's the results of a given WU which is supposed to generate the next, and next, and next... Reason they gave for short deadlines; because if peeps took a long time returning WUs, the results would no longer be of very much importance to them wrt what's running now.

Such an argument of how their project works, suggests that they should be able to keep a steady stream of WUs; unless they've fallen victim to a hardware fault somewhere, of course. Hmm....

I see what the problem is... They're system isn't validating WUs, which is causing a backlog of results needing validation:

I've got Collatz running but it's not very predictable. I tend to end up with just 1 or 2 WUs, which run, then it sits idle for awhile before picking up any more work. Ah well, better than nothing.

My sentiment entirely; it can get the chop as soon as MW reappears.

I don't know if I'm suffering the same problem as you; I'm running 4 x GenLife + 1 x DynaPing* - Collatz runs for 5 mins or so (0.05 CPU + 1 ATI), then goes in a "waiting to run" for the next 5 mins. Annoying, but as you say, better than nothing, and I didn't want to get going with Folding for just a day or so.

* new project run by BOINCStats Willy, uses no CPU so virtually free credit, but I haven't publicised it yet.
I attached a dozen shrubbers, then an hour later I lost internet. Picked up the phone to see what was happening - dead. I was incommunicado for ~18 hours. I'd been back on for an hour or two and was about to post eulogies to the project, when they closed it to newbies Crying or Very sad I'll post when it opens up again.
Not doing too badly - I'm at ~#15 {of 58}, KWSN at #7 (of 15). If anyone wants to run an eye over it, it's at http://dynaping.com/

My problem with Collatz is with work fetch. Once I have a WU it runs fine, but I get hours of idle time waiting for another WU. Turns out they too are having feeder issues (validator is down at MW), and that's why the lack of work. <sigh>

That's what I gathered... No validated WU, no work generated. WUs get turned in and validated; their algorithm is such that those WUs will generate others Razz Well one thing's for certain, as soon as it comes back up; it'll probably have a mountain of work.

Worst case scenario here; since I had to adjust my email and BOINC ID, I attached all projects (yes, BOINC manager is a bit of a mess that crashes if I attach it to BAM; guess updating 20+ projects all at once it doesn't like); which gaurentees I won't run outa work. If it comes to it, it has a CPDN model and a SETI astropulse which can keep it busy.

Milkyway, at least pre-credit nerf was always good for one's RAC though #ni-1

Even post-nerf it's just dandy. I don't have good #'s yet since the project has been up and down awhile, and I've been having driver issues (9.9 works great btw), but it still looks like 50-60k/day is easily had. Which means my $150 graphics card is outproducing 4 computers with a combined total of 16 cores (and 24 threads) by a factor of 5 or 6. Rolling Eyes

I s'pose for peeps who can run it on their GPU also. Since this nasty lil thing called unemployment; upgrades aren't most feasible, and still running on a Radeon 9600 Surprised It falls on the list of unsupported, oh well #ni-1

I'm there with ya. I didn't buy this video card for MW, I bought it to game with... over a year ago lol. I do have my eye on a new HD58xx series card by the end of the year though.

PS: I did some reading, seems the new version of the MW code was optimized again by Cluster Physik and actually GAINED credit/hour despite the 30% drop in credit from the project. I.e., the new version is running efficiently enough that most people aren't losing anything from the credit drop lol.

On the cheaper front, my g/fs computer is chugging Collatz on a $25 HD4350 that I've overclocked almost as far as it will let me without a single degree of heat increase lol. Pre-overclocking it was doing about 1 WU every 3 hours, worth about 500 credits. So that's still 4,000 credits/day from a single $25 video card. Sad, really. Curious how much faster it's going to run them now that I've overclocked it hehe.

MilkyWay is back up, for now. I finally get around to getting my ATI card to shrub, and MilkyWay drops it's credits.Rolling Eyes
Oh well, it still seems like I'll still out-perform many other projects using just the CPU.

I've got all my GPUs on Collatz now. My main one is emptying the queue in hopes of getting some MW work instead as it's worth more, but over all I will probably gain another 10-15k/day. Not bad.

Stooper, You need to download and install the latest optimized app for MW. It pretty much takes care of the credit drop.

I'm running a 4770 on boinc 6.10.6 and ATI 9.9 and version 0.20 from brilliantsite. I'm finishing WUs at about 1 min and getting 53.45 credits per WU. Is that about right? Or does it get better???

Seems pretty good to me, I've gotten over 10,000 in a few hours. I think I like credit ho-ing #ni-1

That's pretty good for a 4770. Probably better than my 4870 is doing lol. On the new .2 I'm only running 1 WU at a time, the defaults changed from 3 to 1, but temps on my card tell me it's still maxing out. I tried 2 WUs at a time and got bad results (longer than doing them individually), so the last work I ran did 50 seconds for 53 credits.

Assuming the HD5870 runs as advertised, it should be capable of 25 seconds per WU (or less, since it's 2x the procs and higher clock speeds too). That'd be awesome hehe.

I'm on 6.10.3 still, keep hearing bad things about all the newer ones and scheduling. Do you run anything but GPU work on that system?

Well here's an interesting one. I just nabbed a

Quote:
astronomy_0.20_SSE3.exe

with associated app_info file, but what was in the directory already is

Quote:
milkyway_0.19_windows_intelx86.exe

Now either newer WUs would have forced an upgrade, or, well there's nothing in the app_info file for 0.19, use this app. So not sure how that will play out. I think with the SETI optimized app the last time I looked at one (I hadn't done much in BOINC in years admittedly), when there was 2 file runs going on at a time, the older run, which used the older app, needed a seperate lime to the xml file added.

Well I guess I'll just have to run it, and see if all goes well with 0.20, or if it's going to use the 0.19 unoptimized, hmm

It's my main shrubber, and the only one going right now. I have GenLife and a little bit of Cosmology. Things are working fine. 2 cores on GenLife, 2 cores on Cosmo and a GPU on Milky (one at a time).

I'm getting about 50 seconds for the 53.45 work and 40 seconds for the 39.xx work on my 4870.
I was getting about the same times as you but I think I discovered something. I downclocked the memory on the GC from 900 to 850 and shaved a few seconds off each task. Wink I' still using BOINC 6.4.7 and 8.12 drivers.
