Well , Umm Da-Grizz being a Moron of the FIRST order , he has recently acquired an Intel Server MoBo (S5500BC) , complete with 2 Intel E5405 2.0 Giggles Cpus and 4 Meg ( ) of suitable ram .
Now , as the afore mentioned MORON (see above) , this is a server MoBo , not a workstation , so - Win XP Pro do not fully utilize the abilities of this board .
I do NOT want to buy M$oft server (2003 , 2008 , etc) products , so any help on a suitable Linux build would be welcome
Behind the parapet now .

I wouldn't go with Ubuntu for a server. Debian won't have the most up to date packages, but provides a very stable and secure server. CentOS is also a very good choice, it's basically a free version of red hat. They would be my first two choices. If you don't need a gui interface you could examine a BSD option as well.

Also can't go far wrong with Zenwalk www.zenwalk.org either.

Ubuntu does have issues with some projects though, like milky way. Although older versions may work better.
Never used zenwalk but it is based on slackware so it could be interesting.
Honestly, I think CentOS would be a good choice for this. It's basically a free red hat server. pretty solid. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

I looked up your board and it appears we are a bit behind making drivers for the on board raid giving errors with the hard drives. Is this the issue you had? _________________ Some days are worse than others. |
