Major restructuring of the farm was done to do this build...pulling PSUs, moving HDs, pulling DVD drives...spent about 4 hours last night doing all of that...ever try to get a Core Contact Freezer on an i7? Had to install the cooler on the bracket, and only then could I get is screwed down to the MB...right now the case is a mess of wires, with only the GPUs, HD and DVD left to get in...then it's cross your fingers and hope it boots...

Wonder how it will do on Enigma??

P.S. You might catch me before I get it going...I pulled a 4850 out of a PC to put in this one, so I am down a cruncher...but don't worry, it's doing PG to get my million there...

Be sure to try out the optimized apps for Enigma. Use the Athlon 64 exe file for 64 bit OS's.

So Enigma has a 64 bit advantage, eh??

I am using the 32 bit opt app one...seems like a little better, but will have to take a stab at the 64 bit...I take it doesn't make any difference that it is an Intel, as long as it is a 64 bit OS, eh?

The Intel/Athlon issue doesn't matter. Just don't use the Core 2 exe or you'll fry all your WU's. I speak from experience Embarassed

What settings are you using to get CPU WU's to play nice with your MW ATI WU's? I just can't seem to get it to work unless I either babysit a lot or use a project with long WU's. It all worked somewhat using a cc_config.xml file that set ncpus to 5 and with an 80% MW 20% WU distribution and a one day work buffer, but that's not the best solution since sometimes I would wind up with Boinc trying to run 5 CPU tasks and no GPU tasks.

Just saw the new Microcenter ad. i7 920 for $199 and the P6T for $249. I have the RAM, an Antec 900 still in the box, PSU, video cards and an unused XP Pro 64 license at home. Might be time to go shopping Twisted Evil The downside is, I don't know where the heck I'd put the thing and the AC can barely keep up as it is. Crying or Very sad

That's insane. For some reason Microcenter rarely has good prices on video cards, but their processor, RAM and board prices usually beat the other guys. Newegg and Tigerdirect get my video card business and other odds and ends, though.

And I think they are 192 core...normal price is 369.99...

A 4850 is 219.99... Shocked Shocked Shocked

That's nuts. I bought a 4850 at Microcenter for $150 or so, then got home and saw the prices on a 4870 at Newegg. That was irritating.

On your rig with the 3 GPUs, are you using the Corsair 650 watt PSU to power all of them? (Noticed that it looks like 2 4870s and 1 4850 in there...)

Yep. Does it without a problem. I think it will work with three 4870's, too. I might try it tomorrow since the machine with the single 4870 is running hot.

Sir John,
How about a special request? I was within 19 points of the lead this morning. As of right now it's about 30 points. I know you're gonna hammer the $h1t out of me. Can ya let me get the lead for just a very short time so I can get a screen shot of me there? Or if I miss it you can get it and PM it to me. Just a little souvanier.
