Sniff, Sniff.. An old friend died today. My Intel P4-D machine (started life as a P4 HT) finally gave up the ghost after I beat the dickens out of the machine for almost 5 1/2 years (a lot of shrubs). It was my main Windoze machine until 2007.
Just started up a Q6600 Linux machine to replace it. (old PS, case, HDD, and memory with new MB & CPU). _________________

In the end this is good, your shrubs will go up and you power bill will go down. It is sad when the older ones get retired.

You don't know when you're well off mate. I'd love to upgrade to 3GHz.
I have to make do with an AMD2000! (1.67GHz). _________________ |

It's an Athlon, is that what you mean? OC'ing is something I've only ever heard about. I don't know how to do it. _________________ |

I've one working, unfortunatly NOT OC'ed, but use optimized apps's, ofcoarse
It's CPU-fan is very present, from time to time, cause of the small case, bad PSU (heat) an ofcoarse this inefficient first Dual-Core CPU.
With poor benchmarks compaired to a Core 2 Duo, these days.
Even my HP Pavillion LT (T2400) C2D (1,83GHz), does more FLOPS, both Whetstone & Drystone, as the P4D (Smithfield)
But as long as it works, I'll keep using it, until, it get really inefficient and unproductive, probably _________________ Fired, Wandering, Silicon Knight , STOP war & greed, N! Ni .
