Don't need new MBs, just PCIe x16 slots...fill 'em up... |
That's why I'm thinking cheap machines with PCIe x16 slots is the way to go. _________________

I'd go for the 3xPCI-E slot machine...
1) you can put a quaddie in the new machine, that'll out perform the 3 P4's
2) the power consumption would be less overall so running cost would be lower
3) on machine takes up less space.... so you'll have room for 2 more PC's in the future, without having to decom any PC's (I "only" have room for 6 in my farm room, which is why I'm adding GPU's to increase my production).
4) a current spec CPU willallow you to run a 64bit OS

Argh! I agree with both of you. Sir Brian makes a very good point on the issue of space, but Sir John makes a good point about getting lots of GPU shrubbing out of older and cheap machines. Maybe I'll just do both There's always room for one more, isn't there? _________________

I think Sir John's point is more valid if you have, existing, older spec PC's with PCI-E slots, which will now give you more RAC with a GPU, and so extends their shruubing life.
I'm not convinced that buying old spec PC's now to put GPU's in them is an efficient way forward.....

LOL! Is that all you got? My two Quads only have one graphics card in each with more than enough power to handle more. That's 2 more empty slots in each system. I haven't even touched the other two sysems I have. I will admit the're somewhat limited but do have room for more GPU cards. A simple power supply upgrade would fix that.

It's not you... They are down according to Boinc Stats.
I was gonna say that this is too good to be true, but I didn't want to Jinx it.
Next will be the Obligatory Credit Adjustments ( ordered by David Anderson) _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

While I was searching for an answer to the outage I found that
Ars Technica is gloating about the fact that they will pass us tomorrow.
any chance we can up our output by....Oh, say 200K right now?
Btw: I happened to touch my box that contains 2 cards the other day and it almost burned me. The case was hotter than any computer I have ever known. Almost as hot as an Oven....
Check your Fan speeds and kick them up. I have mine running at 80% for boxes with one card and at 100% for the one with 2 cards. temps now in the high 50's. I also added 3 fans. _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......
