A PrimeGrid participant has discovered a Mega Prime in the 321 Prime Search! We are currently GFN testing the prime as well as awaiting contact with the discoverer. It is a top 15 prime and the largest found by LLR. Stay tuned for more details.

the word Mega......

Quote:
* mega-, the SI prefix for one million
* "megalo-" means "large", coming from a Greek word with that exact meaning. An example of a word with "mega" meaning large is Megalosaurus
* For the very large number, see Steinhaus–Moser notation

so I guess that if it is confirmed, then the Gimps project is redundant. And I have been wasting 1/2 of my RAC for nuttin Mad

Well there will be multiple mega primes. And different sub-projects to find the primes in, a Mega prime is boig honking big like a Canadian Looney.
