I figgered we might do a little extra planning this time... Check the voting list from last month below. What should be deleted and what should be added to vote on for April?

For example: I want to delete Climate Prediction since it's difficult to even finish a WU in one month. SHA-1 should also be deleted since we've done it 2 months in a row. Now here's a controversial one: delete Prime Grid and reserve it for POTM in June during the mega challenge series? Any projects listed that are finishing up or out of work and therefore unsuitable for a KWSN onslaught? What should be added?

Here's the list we voted on in March, waddya think?

Einstein
Climate Prediction
Rosetta
Cosmology
Milky Way
World Community Grid
ABC
Spinhenge
QMC
Prime Grid
Poem
Aqua
SHA-1 Collision Search
Docking
Leiden Classical
NQueens
Mind Modelling
Magnetism

I think that only Vault projects ( or those that may soon become Vault projects) should be considered as well.

They should also be easy to attach to, This would make most non-boinc projects off limits.

My vote would be swayed most by the ability of the Team to actually get somewhere.

I could also be influenced by our ability to Taunt, Embarrass or otherwise make Miserable some other team Twisted Evil

Well,

Just my opinion but:

I don't have a problem with climate prediction being on there, provided people finish the shrubs, no matter how long they take.

SHA should be off the list for a month, no need to do anything three months in a row

Prime Grid should stay on there but should be off the list in may if we do it in April and we want to use it for June for the challenge (maybe set up a vote for that now?)

I think we need to add ufluids, malariacontrol, rectlinear crossing number, nqueens, sudoku, sztaki and yoyo to the list.

yoyo is a special case, we should look and see which subprojects we already have a strong lead over rechenkraft and/or have enough volunteers doing the subproject directly outside of boinc to match (or close to) what everyone else puts in it so as not to push anyone over us elsewhere.

If Lattice looks like it'll give work maybe we should add it. Superlink also goes in spurts so it's a bad choice for this (but good to do in general). Unless we want to make a grouping of good projects that go like this and designate the group as the project(s) of the month.

And lastly I think we should all get free cheeseburgers but I haven't worked out any details on this part yet.

Aqua isn't in the vault and it seems like it was rejected because the research is being used to prove a company's product works which will make them money, and hence it's not really a not-for-profit project.

I haven't dug overly much myself but it's enough to give me pause. Have you looked them over much for this?

Unfortunately Malaria Control hasn't had any work for some time.

Sudoku? Sorry, I can't see committing any computer time to a cross-number puzzle, but perhaps that's just me...

I guess I can see how Aqua benefits a company, but if Quantum Computing happens as a result, we could accomplish things like running the entire SHA-1 search in about 5 seconds! Shocked

How would YoYo work, would we have to run as non-Boinc? Not sure that's worth the trouble...

Oh lordy, I hope we don't have to vote on what we're going to vote on! #Beer

YoYo is a DC Vault project and is BOINC, and we might be losing some places in it. There are multiple sub-projects in YoYo as well. NQueens I believe is a Vault project as well.

yoyo is a boinc project that runs various non-boinc projects. The thing is yoyo produces points for retchenkraft in those non-boinc projects. That's why if we do it, we should have people also running the non-boinc version of the individual projects in at least equal numbers to yoyo so that we don't give retchenkraft points to pass us with.

Malaria control is currently running test units and may be back in full production soon.

Sudoku may be silly but it is in the vault

I agree that we should reserve PrimeGrid for June and that we should drop SHA-1 from the list for a couple of months.

I'm not sure we want to go with yo-yo because it may be a hard sell to get people to run Boinc and nonBoinc projects.

For me, the key issues are that the project we pick helps the team, that there is a consistent flow of work and the project is in the vault.

Some of us don't run boinc quite so much these days. If we planned ahead, I'm sure we could get people used to doing so, to dedicate cores directly to a specific subproject so others could just run yoyo in boinc. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

If everything is clear I guess it could work. If we're thinking nonBoinc, then what about GIMPS? It's easy enough to join.

I was just thinking we could keep a balance going with some forethought but still keep the focus on boinc to make it easier for people. We need a lot of cores on gimps but it's a long term project. The LL WUs take a long time to run!

I need another salad.

That's true. I've got WU's that report a completion date in May, so GIMP's probably not a good PoTM.

Many of you are forgetting that there are a few people on this team who only have one computer. To make a project like Gimps that takes months to generate any real points or Sudoku that for a celery or p4 will take at least 3-4 days to return a single Wu, will just make people not participate in PToM.

This should be fun for the participants and help the team if possible.

I think that generating excitement for the troops is an important function of PToM.

Just my 2 cents........( can't believe there is no cents key )

That is a great point. Poem is good, and Milkyway turns over the WU's pretty fast.

I like Poem, but we simply must do some taunting!

At the least, we need to wave at the other teams as we silly walk right past them!
