Actually, I should check my frequent flyer miles. My last trip was to Cloncurry- but my luggage went to Melbourne. It took me 3 days to get it back. When I joked with the airline (Qantas) that they should give me the miles that my luggage racked up- to my surprise they did!

Interesting Sir Brian...
I was talking about sending the Asus A7N8X rev 2 with a Barton 2500 and after market Hsf. I also have it in the -E model Both overclocked @ 15% ( I think)

We had something similar many years ago before BOINC we were really into Genome@Home and FOlding@Home. A groupe of Knights decided to build a Spare Parts machine, and Knights could either donate parts or money to help build the machine; and a Knight would gladly build the machine and host the machine in their domicile. That can be done again, but this time for BOINC and it can participate in POTM. It is time to rebirth the Spare Parts machine.

I like the sound of that. I've got a spare parts and even a couple spare shrubbers that I quit using because they're so loud.

Well, I dunno, that strikes me as a lot. That card is a bit rich for me, so I haven't been price checking that one. I'm looking at 9600 GT or GSO (seems like a good bang for the buck), or perhaps a 4870 so I can really put the hammer down on Milkyway.
Huh. I just checked Microcenter. I might get a 9800GT after all. Would you believe $139, brand new?

Go to NewEgg and get a MSI GTX260...mine is doing about 10k a day at GPUGrid...but you need 36 amps on the +12V rails for the thing to work...
Mine was $199 after the rebate...

With two GPU's it seemed like a good idea at the time. I've got a 9600 GSO in one box and an 8800 GT in another. I wish I had gone with the 9800 instead of the 9600, but that card was better for the machine I originally had it in. It was a Shuttle build with a 350 watt PSU and I thought a 9800 would be too much for it.
I'm thinking about the 4870, too. According to a thread on GPUGrid you can crank out 70,000 shrubs per day with a 4870. Not sure I believe that, though.

Well, OK - it should be pretty fast, given that it costs the better part of twice as much, and I would probably have to spend about another $80-100 to upgrade my PSU.
BTW, the one I linked has a $20 rebate on it. And there's a chance it would run off my existing PSU

The PSU is going to be the issue. The board I got for my i7 build has 3-way SLI and 4-way Crossfire, but the power consumption would be pretty hefty. I just ordered the GSX 260 and I'll see how that does before I make a foray into the 4870 territory. Supposedly, you can run NVIDIA and ATI on the same mobo with Vista or Windows 7. That might be an interesting experiment.

Yes. I had an adapter than came with the 9600 for the additional connection. Everything seems to be running fine so far.
The cards started new WU's at the same time and the 260 is at 14%, while the 9600 is at 4.7%.
