How about a new forum topic for us to sell/trade computers or parts there of to each other. I got a sneaking suspicion this might get popular. _________________

I have been looking at selling some of my older stuff so I can replace it with more powerful stuff.
Basically, I like stuff.
AND things.

Honestly, some of that old stuff is worth serious money. If you need it and it hasn't been made in 5+ years well then...... _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

I just kind of thought that this could be another way we could help each other and the team out. Glad to see we have a few others liking the idea as well. _________________

Well I just estimated the cost of FedEx-ing an old Mobo, Cpu & Heatsink to Michelle from here. $191 . I guess that we will have to find another solution for that little problem _________________ a.k.a. Licentious of Borg.........Resistance Really is Futile.......

3# box would run about $13 while a 10# box would run over $50
So yes, if it's fairly light. _________________ Some days are worse than others. |

Huh. I just bought a refurb NetVista with XP installed for $100. I had to have Pro and not just Home for some at-home self teaching I'm doing, and the whole box was $100 while they get $150 for XP Pro itself at the same store. Heck, you can get a pretty good HP box with more RAM and a DVD-ROM/CD burner for $155. Seemed like a no-brainer to me, and I have yet another shrubber to add to the farm. While a 1.8gHz P4 isn't exactly tearing it up in the world of BOINC, every little bit helps.
And, while it's an IBM Netvista, so far it doesn't suffer from the dreaded Netvista syndrome - random lockups that defy troubleshooting - that the last two Netvistas I have had have suffered from. And I should think several days of running Milkyway WFO (in a room that has been pretty hot, sometimes, to boot) would have induced the problem if it was going to come up. Though the first one didn't start doing it until it was a couple of years old.
Anyway, my guess is the mobo would be less than 3 pounds. Or even the mobo, the XP install disk, and the COA. Hmmm...
Depends on how much it would take to be an improvement. I have a socket 740 Sempron mobo that I possibly could check out and send. That same processor would accumulate RAC at a significant fraction of my 3700+ San Diego, on Einstein, at least.
In general, I really like the idea. _________________

I shipped it back to the place I bought it from yesterday. Stupid thing was $350 and showed up in a anti-static bag in a plain brown box and no documentation, software or cables. The ad didn't say anything about it being a refurb and I tried it in two compatible boxes and got nothing. Very irritating. _________________

Mike you know we wouldn't want to put you out doing something like that. We should take up the collection (that was a great idea!) but i'll go instead. _________________
